The castle had an unimpeded and breathtaking view of Liechtenstein. There is a small cafe at the foot of the climb, it serves coffee, beer and gelatos. Along the path is a tiny patch vineyard, carved into the steep slopes.

Rather steep climb to the top of the hill where this castle is situated. We were lucky enough to be given a short tour of the castle by chance as it is apparently closed from September to May. Not sure if this is correct or why. Once inside, the castle is fantastic, the garden and chapel are beautiful. The view of the surrounding area is stunning from the walls of the front of the castle. The castle had fallen into ruin but was rebuilt and restored in an exceptionally authentic way. Looks like the real deal. Would recommend booking a guide for a tour of this castle so that it is not a wasted opportunity. At the bottom of the hill there is the most magnificent church. It is worth looking at, from the large stone walls to the graves on the side. A total sense of calm and peace surrounds this church. The view of the church and the castle together are amazing!

Even on a rainy day in November, the views from the top of the little hill on which Burg Gutenberg stands are lovely. Shame, though, that the castle is closed--or at least was when we were there (on a rainy day in November). Not sure if it's a seasonal thing or...

Anyway, you can still appreciate the architecture from the outside and, again, the views. Also, there's a cool sculpture out front that you can make booming, echoing sounds with if you touch it just right. (I didn't mean to, but I realized this on accident, and then it was pretty cool). There's free parking in the church lot down below.

Perched atop a hill in Balzers, the castle is a local landmark. Over the centuries it fell into ruin but was rebuilt by a local entrepreneur in the early years of the 20th century. I hired an (extremely knowledgeable) guide to take me round and the fact that much of the castle is in fact a rebuild actually made it more interesting than I expected: a lot is known about its recent history. It is indeed a pity that it is not generally open to the public, but it is used for open-air theatre during the summer months.

While the castle has been nicely restored over the centuries and can be photographed from below and, if you climb the drive, from the outside of the castle. It is like licking a jar of honey. Unless the this is set up visitors (for a fee), there isn't enough to merit a stop. Save your efforts for other sites that are set up to receive visitors.

You park at the bottom of the hill and hike up. It’s a somewhat steep walk and is tiring. You can get great pictures. I wish it was sunny when I was there. The castle is nice but it is locked up. So you can’t go inside. Still well worth it for the photo op.
