Such a great place to visit, definitely recommend! There’s a short route and a long route (attach pic with map), my family and I went for the long route. Do bring a hat and water if going fir the long one on a hot day. There is also a cafe near the exit where you can get some nice cool drinks/freshly squeezed orange and pomegranate juice post walk. Took us overall about an hour to do the long route.
Theres clearly more of the city to be dug up and unearthed but still great to see whats there.
Also if you happen to be going to Nicosia and go to the Cyprus Museum you can see more of the items they found there!

Let's start by saying that the site is extraordinary and deserves a lot. There are two routes: the short one with highlights can be done in an hour. The long one I didn’t take into account because at the end of September it was still 33 degrees and the sun was beating down.
A bitter taste remains in the mouth for the whole situation... the Turkish management is pitiful and the site is left to fend for itself. There are virtually no fences and you can walk anywhere which obviously brings substantial damage to the stones and pavement. Unfortunately, the carelessness with which the Turks treat the artistic heritage (here in Cyprus) is truly deleterious and hurts the heart.

A lovely old school hotel. We spent the day, on a day pass, staff very friendly and welcoming and food was very good. Except for a bite of a pickle tasted off which made question the freshness.

Wonderful walk around the ancient ruins. Very well kept. Clean and tidy. Has toilet facilities and somewhere to grab a snack. Worth a snack if you are visiting the ghost town as it is a short distance away.

The ancient city of Salamis is a wonderful structure due to its location. Many buildings such as the temple of Zeus, the amphitheatre, and the gymnasium, built by the sea, have still survived to this day. You may experience some difficulties in transportation. You should check the minibus schedules. Unfortunately, there is no direct transportation to the ancient city. You have to come by the pier minibuses, get off at the main road and walk for 20 minutes or take a taxi. but definitely worth a visit. I was here for a great event such as theatre Festival 🙂

Nice archaeological site with an entrance fee of only 2 euros. There is also a cafe that pays attention to the prices because they are expensive.

What an amazing place. I did not think that it would be on such a large scale. When you are used to curated sites such as exist in Europe it was quite a shock to have such free access (which might not be such a good idea for the ruins themselves) and such a lack of information and signage. If I were coming again I would print off a map and bring it as otherwise you are a bit hampered if you come without a guide as we did.

Interesting site even if there is a complete absence of information and care of the structures. If you are in the north this is one of the main attractions.

Great to be able to see and experience Salamis. However, there aren't any maps or information available so a little research needed beforehand maybe. Entry fee 50tl or 3€

Only the center of ancient Salamis is excavated and partially restored but the site is big enough to spend at least an hour there. Signage is almost nonexistent. Admission is €3 and euros are accepted.

there are buses running along coast road which will drop you off at salamis site round about, about 10 mins walk. I picked up bus from pateks in old city, they seem to be hourly cost about 3 euros.coming back just have to wait at main road for one to turn up.

What is the best way to get here from Protaras? By hire car or any recommended tour companies?
撰写日期:2018年3月11日
sorry late reply but the best way to travel in Cyprus is by hire car .There are very few tour operators if any .Get yourself a good map and get lost you find the best restaurants and you will see the best parts of the island.

It depends upon the age of your children. In case they were already grown up and you were all interested in art and History, the best places to visit are the ruins of Salamina, the town of Famagusta the Kyrenia castle and the ruins of Bellapais monastery. In case they were already small the best thing to do should be perhaps to look for a nice resort hotel on the coast somewhere near Girne (Kyrenia).
Remain at your disposal for further details

We used Mercury Holidays and stayed at the Pia Bella Hotel in Kyrenia. Guided excursions booked via Tour Plus.

Did you visit from the south or the North, we are going to Protaras next week and I d like to know how easy it is to visit from the south , we'll be hiring a car. Is it ok to go into the North
Thanks, Gina
撰写日期:2015年4月24日
Hi. We where in the North. I guess it is possible to visit from theSouth as there is supposed to be a border crossing but the hire car we hired was very specific that we couldn't cross to the South. You should probs check with your hire car company that you can cross to the South or you might need to find an organised trip. IMHO if you want to see a Roman Amphitheater Curium in the South is a better place to visit as it is far far better looked after whereas Salamis is going to rack and ruin.
