Gracias.

I will be travelling via OBB train from Salzburg to Hallstatt in late August 2018. To get onboard the ferry at Hallstatt port to Hallstatt village, do I need to first purchase ferry tickets prior to getting onboard, or are the tickets sold onboard the ferry?
Are the boat tickets timed? If I purchase a roundtrip boat ticket and need to catch the last ferry back to Hallstatt train station for the last train departing for Salzburg, is it guaranteed that I can go onboard the last ferry so as not to miss the last train? Or must I arrive at the ferry port early enough to ensure beating the crowd for the last boat?

No sé si lloverá. Gracias.

I will be in the region for Christmas markets from Vienna to Munich in early December. I am wondering how easy travel is during winter season and is a day trip to Hallstatt worth it at that time of year? I see the cable car is closed and am wondering if much of the town is closed down for winter as well. Any tips/advice are greatly welcomed!

and would it be worth an overnight stay or would just a day trip from Vienna or Salzburg be sufficient?
Are there any supermarkets/food markets in the Hallstatt village? I'm staying by myself in the village and will have access to a bike for travel.

hello!
i have a few questions i need help and guidance with.
i am very keen to explore the scenic beauty of the Lake area around Hallstatt, but have never been to Austria so am quite clueless
do u recommend staying in Hallstatt? somewhere nearby? or day trips from Salzburg as we do plan on staying in salzburg for a few nights? is it feasable to book an apartment in that area, although we have no car?
if getting the bus to Hallstatt from salzburg and there are pretty areas on the way that i would like to stop and look at, do i need to buy tickets repeatedly or can i get a day pass and hop on and off?
plus when is the last bus/connectiong train/ferry to hallstatt?
for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids what is the best /economic ticket to get where we can enjoy views and stops on the journey to Hallstatt from salzburg?
thank u very much!

Hi, having just recently returned from staying near hallstatt, I personally would recommend staying close to hallstat rather than salzburg. Although we hired a car it is possible to see an awful lot in the area by either train or bus. We stayed at Au ( 2 mins walk fro Steeg gosau railway station) in a lovely apartment with a balcony great views. Halstatt was a 2 hour walk away around the East shore of the lake which I highly recommend for all the family. You can get there by train and bus the bus is free with the salzkammergut card ( this also gets you into lots of attractions free or gives a discount). If you get the train you also need to get the ferry across to halstatt cost 5 euros each way, great view of the town.
We also did a couple of day trips without the car, one was to salzburg, the easiest way to get ther is by bus, from hallstatt to bad ischl where you change onto the 150 bus to salburg cost 11euro pp each way. Salzburg is a great city, highly recommend the fortress and the gardens, we only had 5 hours there which I felt we could done more with more time.
We did also do a train journey to gmunden lovely place on a large lake.
Unfortunately I cannot comment on railcards, but based on the prices we paid again gmunden was 9 euros pp each way I would guess a railcard would be a plus for a family of 4.
Another place well worth a visit is Dachstein skywalk & ice caves which you can get to by bus.
Hope this is of help.
