This area really encompasses multiple attractions - the cemetery, churches, and the catacombs. All are worth seeing and except the catacombs are all free. Pay the 2 Euro per person and walk up the stairs to see the church carved into the cliff face.

Quiet spot between the old town and the funicular. Famous to many for being where iconic scenes from Sound of Music were filmed.

We went in this cemetery because we read that it was a place to visit. The tombs are covered with flowers and it looks more like a big garden than like a cemetery. There’s the tomb number 31 where is buried the architect of the cathedral of Salzburg.

While not the actual cemetery from the Sound of Music (that was filmed back in California), this was the cemetery that inspired the scene from the movie where Von Trapp family was hiding while trying to make their escape.
Even without that connection, this is a beautiful and peaceful place in Salzburg.

Wow Salzburg was an absolute highlight of our European holiday. Walking around the old town, visiting the Fort and Mozart museum. We did the sound of music tour which was absolutely beautiful, seeing all the sites of Salzburg and the Lake District was so serene.. if you are visiting Europe definitely put Salzburg on the top of your list to visit. The country side is so beautiful and the food Yum 😋
