Dear Trek28514, when you want to walk from the fortress to the Mönchsberg lift, there is an idyllic pathway that leads you through sparse forests, past histroic buildings and fortifications. It is a lovely walk that takes approx. 30 minutes. As mentioned by zuv, you can put the "Museum der Moderne Salzburg" as your final destination (there are several signs leading you to the museum). Dear GGenelle, if you want to see the Fortress Hohensalzburg in its full beauty from afar, we would recommend the views from Monchsberg. On top of the lift, there is a beautiful panoramic terrace from which you can see all over Salzburg. :-) However, taking the FestungsBahn funicular up the fortress is also a really nice experience and guarantees further great views! :-)

No problem at all, if you like to walk i suggest one way with the funicular and then just walk back, of course if weather permits - enjoy your travel and greetings from lovely Vienna

I'm assuming you are referring to restaurants at the top of the lift. Right near the lift is the Modern Art Museum's restaurant ( great view, pricey). If you are referring to the restaurant near the old city wall, I believe it is part of a hostel, Die Stadtalm.

Sorry, not sure. However, when we were in Salzburg we used 3 forms of transportation. FestungsBahn funicular to the Fortress, Monchsberg lift and the cable car to the top of Untersberg mountain. Brian from Markham, Ontario
