Free with the Vienna Pass, this museum gives a good insight into the development of Freud's theories and family life, before he was forced to flee to Hampstead, London, in order to escape from the Nazis. The apartments and practice rooms are sparsely furnished, though a surprising number of his and Anna Freud's personal effects are present, often located precisely where they would have been originally. It probably helps to have some prior knowledge of his theories, although this museum is most affecting on account of its family histories (he lost all but one of his sisters to the death camp at Treblinka). Fragments of the original richly coloured decor survive on the walls and ceilings, in contrast to the now very clinical white walls. An exhibition space currently explores the relationship between Freudian theories and surrealist art.

This was the home of Sigmund Freud + office before he exiled in London in WWII. It doesn't have a lot of furniture but it contains a lot of information about the use of the rooms.
It also contains VARIOUS objects that he used, which was quite interesting to see and read about.
If you really like Freud or simply just sympathize a bit with him or even are intrigued by his theories (even if you find them absurd), this is a great museum to go to. I was just intrigued and by bf (who came with me) really likes Freud and both of us really liked the experience and recommend it 100%. Freud's life was truly interesting and since he's such a Vienna's icon, it's a must to come here.
IMO you'll need 3 hours at least to see everything + the exhibition, since it's just not his house, but also the office. There's a lot of information not only about his life, but also about his family and his theories. It was a great experience and I really enjoyed my time there.
When we went there (May 2022) there was an exposition that connected surrealism and psychoanalysis, mainly Dalí which was obsessed with Freud. It was nice too to have art incorporated in the museum.

Seitdem das Interieur entfernt wurde ist nichts mehr übrig von der Authentizität des Ortes. Rein auf Kommerz getrimmter, kalter Ort

A must-see for anyone interested in the human condition and the history of psychology. Even though the original furniture is in London, this is the original work place of Dr Freud, a thinker and icon of the 20th century. There are objects, information and now even an exhibition on surrealists

A visit to the Freud museum is a must for anyone interested in psychology and the godfather of psychoanalysis.
As stated in other reviews this is mostly empty rooms with immense information on Sigmund Freud and his family as well as letters and items belong to the man himself and other influential therapists.
Such an informative experience!
There is a lovey cafe and gift shop to enjoy also at the end of your visit. We enjoyed a coffee and cake after learning more about Freud.

Definitely a must-visit for any Freud fan. It has detailed descriptions of his home and office, and a LOT about his family. I gather it’s his former apartment (though really it’s now just a bunch of empty rooms, with displays). No simulation of his office with a couch or anything, though they did have a waiting room simulation… just not an actual treatment room. That was strange, but ah well.
It’s definitely on the pricier side (twice as expensive as the war museum in Vienna) but pretty well done. Most (but not all) displays are bilingual German/English. It says on the site that it was recently renovated, but it seems VERY old. Not sure about those renos.
They could use better organization at the entrance for sure. We were outside, and saw one door going to the museum, and one to the ticket office. We already had our tickets, and the website says to those who buy tickets online: “You can skip the line at the ticket counter and proceed to the fastlane at the shop counter!” But we figured we would have to show our COVID-19 vaccination proof as we did with other museums, so we went in the ticket door. We saw that they weren’t checking for vaccination, so we turned to go to the museum. The ticket agent shouted at us to get in line. So we did. We showed her our tickets, and she scanned them, and we went in. Why does the website say that buying tickets online lets you “skip the ticket counter”?? Totally false. And it was odd that they don’t make sure people are vaccinated before they enter in. All the other attractions we’ve been to in Vienna did require that.
Anyway, apart from that confusion over ticketing, we really have no complaints. My wife really enjoyed the content. Verrry old building of course, so be ready for floors that are quite tough on the feet. Worth a visit if you have any interest in Freud! No need to buy a ticket in advance though.

I have always had an interest in psychology so this museum was exactly what I was looking for. It was a fantastic experience and you didn’t need to know anything about fried prior to going because his whole life is explained through the exhibition and it details all his process and works too.
The whole museum has English translations throughout every exhibit including the special exhibition currently on there.
It had lots of fascinating pieces of history and I thoroughly enjoyed walking around and reading the information.
They had lockers to keep belongings too so I didn’t have to carry my bag around which was a bonus!
It is easy to access by foot or public transport and the staff were friendly. The ticket was reasonably priced and there was plenty to see and do whilst visiting

I believe the actually museum will be closed for renovations until May 2020. You should be able to find the exact dates/ timeline on their website.
