For something different to do on a Saturday morning i found out about the Vienna public transport museum (Remise Verkehrsmuseum) Im not sure the opening hours during summer, during early May it was only Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday, it is only 20 minutes by tram18 from the main station with a few minute walk around the corner to get there.
The museum is housed in the old tram sheds and other than the cobble stone main entrance the layout is also quite access friendly, there are toilets and a cloakroom for jackets etc with a small ticket office and gift shop, tickets can also be bought online and at other Wiener Linien ticket offices.
The collection dates back from the first horse drawn trams up to the modern units in use today as well as some of the buses that have served Vienna, there are audio handsets that guide you around not only the history of the city's transport but of the rise of the city as a whole.
Cost for entry is 10 Euro for and adult but there is group and other tickets, the Wiener Linien website has details of costs and how to get there and other useful infomation.
Overall I liked the museum and had a good couple of hours wandering around and would recommend a visit if you have a few hours

A well-prepared exhibition with an exciting quiz. We were there longer than we planned 😃 The 7 year old really enjoyed it and we parents also found it very informative.

The best exhibition for anyone interested in technology. Very varied, interactive and simply explained. Brilliant little souvenir shop. Really cool for children. You should definitely go!

Very much a niche attraction but as a transport enthusiast I had to go. Very large collection of trams (40+) and also some buses. The museum itself has very limited opening hours but the shop is open daily I think. In an old tram depot, so very realistic. Tram and bus driving simulators were quite entertaining. Most of the information is provided in German and English. Not just old trams but various displays give a timeline of the history of transport in Vienna which ties in with the social, political and economic history of the city, so some interest for the non-enthusiast. A pity some UK cities haven’t made this level of effort to maintain their transport heritage. Near the Sclacthausgasse U-Bahn stop with direct service to the city centre but also nearby bus and tram services. No cafe etc but excellent loos, like most places in Vienna.

Sehr interessante Geschichte und Fahrzeuge. Immer wieder gibt es Spielstationen um die Physik zu verstehen. Der Ubahnsimulator ist sehr cool.

Interesting museum a lot on display, some interactive. enjoyed the bus and U Bahn simulators. Display information all in German with some English translation. Looked as if there may have been an audio trail available, we weren’t offered anything and perhaps we should have asked if there was one.
Worth a couple of hours to see the exhibits. No cafe just a couple of vending machines for beverages. Limited opening times, check before you go to make sure it’s open.

This museum is quite small but features plenty of exhibits and hands-on activities. If you are interested in transport and are in Vienna it is well worth a visit.
