A most disappointing visit to Albin Denk (Bräunerstraße 3, 1010 Wien) to buy a traditional “nut cracker” in Vienna. In brief, the staff were unhelpful and the prices were expensive and not representative of the broader Viennese market. Whilst initially greeted on entry, we were then largely ignored as foreigners. When assistance was requested, it was offered sparingly. We still bought a £100 nut cracker, and the sales clerk decided to give us a small gift, which was promptly overturned by the owner - a rather tactless and offensive gesture.
They had many extremely nice items, but undoubtedly they appeared more pricey than other similar stores. Some of the Christmas markets (specifically Christkindlmarkt and Karlsplatz) had the same quality items (including nut crackers) for half the price.

Das Geschäft von Albin Denk steht im Herzen der historischen Mitte von Wien zwischen der Pestsäule und dem Stock im Eisen Platz. Von der U-Bahn Station Stephansplatz aus ist man zu Fuß in weniger als drei Minuten hier.
Albin Denk wurde 1702 als erstes Porzellanhaus Wiens im Zentrum der Stadt gegründet. 1878 bekam die Firma Albin Denk den Titel eines k.u.k. Hoflieferanten verliehen. Das Geschäft galt beim Wiener Bürgertum und bei der Aristokratie als erste Adresse für hochwertige Produkte der Tischkultur.
Auch wenn man nichts kaufen möchte, lohnt ein Blick in den Verkaufsraum. Erlesene Artikel zur Tischkultur werden hier so stilvoll präsentiert, dass es eine wahre Wonne ist, hier durch die Gängen zu gehen. Vor dem Kauf sollte man aber den Kontostand checken, sonst könnte es eine böse Überraschung geben.

Recorriendo la zona de Stephanplatz, despues de andar por el palacio de Hofburg y sus lindos jardines, en las calles centricas pasamos por este lindo local.

Чудесное место, где можно просто зайти и полюбоваться разнообразными изящными сувенирами: изысканно, дорого, со вкусом! Можно также купить по приемлемым ценам замечательные Рождественские сувениры.

Albin Denk is a wonderland. I felt transported back to youthful forays hot chocolate at Rumplemeyer's on Central Park after walking up Madison and 5th gawking at Christmas decorations. In Vienna, off the Stephenplatz on Graben is a doorway into that world of sugar plum fairies, or actually the most gorgeous glass, porcelain and every manner of decorative item that meets the dual tests of whimsy and good taste.
Customer service is as from a dream.
My wallet was lighter and suitcase heavier after my trip to Albin Denk. Breakfast at Tiffany indeed.

The store has no street frontage but is down an aisle fronting the street. The aisle though is lined with their wares and is an entertainment in itself. There are some exquisite figurines but you'll need at least 800€ to purchase one.

Great place to buy special gifts or just to browse. I have bought way too much porcelain/tableware here. They also have the smoker figurines and nutcrackers, also glockenspiels but those traditional,pieces are very expensive. The pottery pieces do go on sale sometimes, I bought a lot of Christmas pieces just after Christmas.

We saw a lovely music box when visiting this beautiful shop in the Graben on our trip to Vienna just before Christmas.
On our return home we decided to contact Denk by e mail and enquire about purchasing it.
All the attention and service by phone and on line which we received was most polite and finally this week the music box arrived, beautifully packed and in good condition.
This is a lovely shop , not to be missed if you are in Vienna.
