A great way to spend an hour or two!

We loved this small but mighty museum! Great exhibits, gorgeous curating, very cool makerspace downstairs, and in a super convenient location. One of the best art museums of its size I've seen!

Some nice art

I liked this place, but my husband wasn't too interested. Some of the artwork was really interesting and I enjoyed it, some of it I didn't quite 'get'. Still, it was worth a visit.

Where are the original displayed peaces of art?

Unfortunately there is an exibition with lights.
No need to see that.
And because of this exibition they had to take out the art that is normally displayed.
Online you can find many nice pieces… but not now in the museum….

short but sweet; don't set your expectations too high

I love art. But when you go to Tromso you go for what the surrounding area has to offer you. And that's a lot. So don't expect an art museum like you find them in any other major European or North American city. By the way Tromso is relatively small: 60-70.000 people. So don't set your expectations too high. And then you will be allright. There was Sami art. And it was there on its own right not because for political correct reasons. There was art from across the world looking at the same thing: nature. I visited the museum during the left over hour just before going to the airport for my return flight. And it was just good for that. I am glad the museum was there.

Disappointing use of space

2022年7月

Was very disappointed in this museum. Last time we visited , it had a great range of paintings with some superb historical pieces.
This time, apart from a few landscapes on the top floor the entire museum was taken up by a few tedious installations.
All the wall space was bare ! On enquiring we were told that the paintings were in the vaults.
I strongly suggest that they are brought out , especially as the other museums were closed .
There was room enough for the modern stuff as well as the art which we know to be hidden from sight.

Lohnt überhaupt nicht. Es gibt nach Änderung der Ausstellung nur noch 4 Videoinstallationen, deren Simn sich mir verschliesst. Schade

Un beau petit musée pour découvrir les artistes norvégiens

Le musée est de taille modeste, mais bien conçu et les explications des œuvres exposées sont toujours intéressantes. Il présente quelques jolies pièces : il y a 2 tableaux de Munch mais, tout comme Grieg n’est pas le seul compositeur norvégien ou Ibsen le seul auteur norvégien, on découvre de nombreux autres artistes dignes d’intérêt - ne serait-ce qu’Anna-Eva Bergman, la compagne d’Hans Hartung, mais il y aussi une salle de dessins remarquables. Aussi un émouvant documentaire où l’on interviewe en 1994 Hanna Brieschke, modèle d’Edvard Munch, au soir de sa vie. Et une des jeunes femmes de la réception était toute contente de pouvoir pratiquer un peu son (bon) français! Bref on passe une heure agréable dans ce musée au prix très raisonnable.

Small. Not much to explore.

I walk through the exhibition in 15 minuts. Not really a lot to see. Right in the city center. Close to most hotels. 80NOK entry fee.

Jeg fikk utvidet horisonten

Jeg dro på kunstmuseet med et åpent sinn, spent på hva jeg ville få oppleve. Det var en rolig, behagelig og stemingsfull atmosfære. Jeg synes museet har gjort en kjempejobb med å sette sammen en unik utstilling. Det var mange flotte verker av François-Auguste Biard (1799-1882), en foreløpig ukjent kunstner for meg. Han var like glad i å reise som meg, han malte og tegnet det han opplevde (med litt dramatisk kunstnerisk frihet) og jeg tar bilder av det jeg opplever. Kritikken mot hans verker var balansert og berettiget og skapte en fin balanse i utstillingen. Jeg hadde en fin opplevelse der og anbefaler andre å ta en tur.
