Lovely area and when the sun is shining it could be any marina in a swanky European city. There are a good mix of bars and restaurants and a lovely hotel. The only criticism is that whoever is responsible for the communal areas, paths and roads needs to get them cleaned and weeded, it's a tatty mess.
So if you fancy visiting Ipswich and don't want to get mugged then stay in the marina area.

We travelled about 30 miles after being recommended to the waterfront area and the 'new' marina.
We expected, in the very height of summer, to be able to spend a relaxing 2 or 3 hours, have a meal and then sit down, relax and maybe read whilst taking in the sun on a great day.
The meal was fairly easy but some places were far too crammed so we walked on and had an adequate meal towards the seaward end of the marina.
But, there was nowhere to sit and relax and/or read as there were no benches or seats of any description. There was a lot of litter, most dropped by groups of boys riding around on bikes and generally being a nuisance to pedestrian visitors.
The whole walkway was dull and unappealing - it is as if it is only half finished - and apart from no seats also no flowers in flower beds or on lampposts, etc.
So, all in all not real worth visiting for more than an hour or so and even less if not having a meal here.

Suffolk is the most exquisite county, filled with beautiful villages, and endless greenery.
Then their is Ipswich, sadly one of the most dreadful places, I have ever had the misfortune to go to. I can't think of anything redeeming to say about the town, so I won't.
I would suggest, to visit beautiful Suffolk, but avoid Ipswich like the plague.

Probably an okay place to visit in good weather, but we visited on a grey wet day. A limited number of places to eat or drink. Worth a visit perhaps if you live nearby, but otherwise not recommended.

I love Ipswich Waterfront. It's a great place to go for a walk, a meal, or a drink, and it's especially beautiful in the summer when you can sit outside and enjoy the views of the marina and the river Orwell.

Ipswich is a disgusting hole that's getting worse every year .if you love begging crackheads and pick pockets .and to all the people that say the water front is great for a stroll it's only about 200 metres long takes 10 mins to walk.with sparse amenities i.e. 2 pubs and a few places to eat.its a different story if you cross the river next to the skate park.walk up the river there and you get to see the real Ipswich.no go areas ,junkies. Filthy river and rubbish .the council is a joke and all they want you to see is the only clean, ish docks.walk in to town at 11am 'that's when most locals get their shopping etc done by because they are filling the town with lazy non working thieving foreigners that get up by about 10.30 along with the crackhead. This is an honest review from a hard working resident who has lived here for the past 24 years and as those years have past it's just got worse .so do yourselves a fever and don't listen to the lies on here and drive on by.

The Ipswich Waterfront is a great place for a walk, a sundowner or a meal at one of the many restaurants. There are also several very good cafe’s and restaurants serving breakfast and cream teas. The Salt House Hotel provides an excellent all round experience with great views of the waterfront and marina from both the indoor and outdoor restaurant seating. The sunsets are spectacular on the waterfront and the boating activity is always interesting. If you are there for the weekend several pubs and restaurants feature live music and it is an easy walk into the town or to Christchurch Park.

If you search IP3 0FR, there are around 3 car parks at this location due to it being the postcode belonging to the student accommodation Athena Hall.
All 3 are paid car parks and are extremely strict with times. Although strict, they are dead on the waterfront and very close to student spots as well as favourites of the locals.

I’m needing to get from Ipswich to Framlingham on August 25th and I see the Uber isn’t available there. The train only goes to Wickham Market that day and I’m not sure if taxis are there to finish the journey. Can anyone tell me if taxis travel from Ipswich to Framlingham? Taxis in Wickham Market? Any help is appreciated.
