The Wolsey's gate is a splendid piece of history easily missed in a non-descript part of the one-way system near Ipswich quayside, worth locating and could do with some preservation and some restoration.

Not in a picturesque location right by the main road. The gate looks like it's is in it's original condition and deteriorating. Needs anice garden round it rather than a busy main road.

This must be one of the best gates in that part of Ipswich. Certainly, I cannot think of any better gates anywhere near.

Stuck on a very busy, dirty road, this is all that remains of Wolsey's College. Not much else to see other than the gateway.

Should be the pride of Ipswich but it has been left to get in such a state of disrepair its criminal,whoever is responsible for the upkeep of this should be ashamed

The Wolsey Gate sits next a busy one way road system. Not worth a special trip but if walking between the town centre and the Waterfront take a slight detour

The reason for writing this the Wolsey gate is its stuck near a busy road in the past the drive ventured further out towards the flats! Now here is the spooky bit my daughter stayed with here friend across the road in the flats during the night she saw a choir boy walking towards her she thought she was dreaming and described the choir boy to me how she described him was like a choir boy would be dressed many many years a go! Dad she said it was SO real after doing a bit of history the drive or road to the church was almost in line with her friends flat my daughter hasn't the heart to tell her friend as it would freek her out but she dosnt want to sleep there again! Has any one else seen the choir boy who still walks the hallowed ground, also yes I have seen many a spirit but normally. When the person is dying and if you really want to get into ghosts try the spread eagle and watch the glasses fly off the shelf with no one near them! Or mc Guintys were the ghosts move bottles around in the cellar ask the owners!

There is not much to see here, just a Tudor brick gateway by the side of a very busy street. It is all that remains of Wolsey,s college and, as such, is a historical monument, but it is of little practical use.

This might not be the most stunning of monuments that you will ever see but if Henry VIII had not closed this college it could have grown to become one of the oldest universities in England. Real historical interest there...
