Beautiful! Fantastic outing if you are a National Trust member or not, very peaceful when you are there.

I finally made my first visit here, having lived nearby for some time! Naively, I was surprised by just how diverse the history and nature of the island really was and how easy it was to notch up the walking miles - finding quiet and solitude if wanted, but also with all necessary facilities to hand. Everybody, from the ferry crossing, to island staff, was friendly, capable but chilled. A whole day here was not too much, and i hope to be back with my binoculars, camera and good boots again!

Choppy harbour trip. National Trust entry fee steep - £21 per person. Would be expensive for a family if not NT members. Especially since Dorset Nature also ask for a voluntary contribution. Cafe is very disappointing - cake stale. The island is a good walk - with deer and red squirrels but the highlight is the harbour nature reserve - spoonbills, avocets,

Great trip. Spent three hours on the island but could of stayed longer.
You can take your own food and drink and sit and watch the chickens and peacocks which are friendly.
We were very lucky to see the red squirrels which was fantastic

Another excellent early morning organised ‘birdsong’ event at Brownsea Island.
Our ranger/guide John, collected the group from Sandbanks quay and then on the NT boat, we headed for the island(5 minutes).
We navigated the island on foot with John giving us the general insight to how Brownsea works, and excellent guiding with his inexhaustible knowledge on the birdsong.
This event was prepaid, a 0730am start, and included coffee/tea and a bacon, sausage and egg bap.
We decided to stay on the island after the event which concluded at 1015am and spent a further hour and a half exploring ourselves, finding quality time photographing several red squirrels at close quarter.
Excellent morning at Brownsea.

Popped over on the boat for the day. £12.50 fare return. Members so no cost for National Trust. The whole point of going is always to see the red squirrels. We just saw three. You won`t see scores of them dashing about. Also saw a deer. Had a cuppa in the cafe. Nice three hour stay. a slow stroll through the trees, walk along the beach. All good.

We enjoyed walking around the Island at our own pace. We did see four red squirrels. The scenery on the island was spectacular. The facilities were good, and the ferry journeys there and back were pleasant. It wasn’t too crowded in October.

This really is a unique place, with so much of interest. The history is remarkable, & the NT have done a good job of providing information all around the island, with a very helpful free map.

Above all though, it is the natural history which sets this location apart, from the huge variety of seabirds (with a helpful trail provided by Dorset Wildlife Trust) to the range of resident creatures, including the famous red squirrels, the peacocks, pheasants, free range chickens & the very bold Sika deer showing off near the church.

On top of all that, we had a cruise around Poole harbour, with an interesting commentary from the skipper - well done everyone!
