The park is offering free tennis lessons to players under 13 on WEEKENDS. Not sure how long they last or if over the half terms. And not just a turn up and try session. The coach is engaging, fun and really motivated the kids.
There's also an adult session afterwards... Just as good but it does cost.

Huge park
Variety of stuff to do.
Children's park with toddler and junior areas. Playing fields skatepark little pond and a bigger body of water.
Huge open space to bring a picnic deed some ducks play ball or ride a bike. Aviary too. Not.sure where main carpark was and worried about getting a ticket
Could do with a bit of a tidy as litter about

love the park and the rose garden, shame we had to go round the outer way to get to the secret garden which could be accesed via a shortcut but can't as it's someones property. or go the other way up the path that leads to the stadium.

Love this place.
One of the last open green spaces in wakefield to be able park for free, so a family of 1-6 or more can happily enjoy a few hours de stressing , a walk to see the ducks, swans and geese , rose garden , secret garden, skateboard park, playground and lovely field to play a game of football, catch or other sport. If areas like this continue then the health of the population will thrive, l hope it remains like this and free of threats of commercial takeovers.

Thornes park is a nice place to go when you want to have a walk there is barely and rubbish lying on the floor. It is full of wildlife and is very tranquil. If you go at spring or autumn, it is a scene of beauty.

Can't beat Thornes Park if you want to just have a walk around. But it also has the miniaturerailway on a Sunday, skate park, tennis courts, bowling, bird aviary, pitch and putt, plus mini golf.

A well maintained park with a number of interesting features including a formal rose garden and a restored bandstand. Effectively, three adjoining parks, with plenty to explore.

What a beautiful park there’s a secret garden , a aviary with so many different species of birds And there’s a coffee bar also a restaurant for a snack or a meal . Lots of good walking paths . Worth a visit

This is a very extensive park with some formal areas, for instance the Rose Garden and the Secret Garden, together with plenty of space to explore - including the site of the old motte and bailey castle. Good to see the cafe open for take away.

I know that this is a late reply but for anyone else who wants to know about the parking situation at Thornes Park in Wakefield as of writing in January 2020 there is a large car park across from the Sports Arena which is accessed from Horbury Road (ignore sat navs that say Clarence Walk).
The car park is free and there are plenty of spaces but I should imagine that it fills up quickly in the summer months and/or school holidays.
