Working at the University this weekend my colleague and I popped in for lunch. Food was fresh, portions were generous and the staff were really friendly. The only down side is you order and pay for food at one till point then have to buy your drinks at another point .... which was a bit of a faff. It looks like it’s had a revamp in recent times and I’d recommend it!

We love to visit the university of Essex every few weeks for a squid and sweet potato fry evening, or even a cheeky Cajun chicken burger, all food is excellent priced and it is free to park at the university after 4:30pm and weekends, there is also a great bar, with a good choice of drinks from bottles to golden ales.

Despite what I write it won't change much about this bar plus there isn't anything else to challenge it in this area. The bar looks alright, basic but what I found to be most unusual was the back to back serving bar BUT 2 different companies. I ordered a drink on one bar but they didn't serve the other drink so had to walk round the other side to the other bar which is connected on the same table and wait for a boy to come serve me whilst the other barman was just standing there. Seems very silly and unnecessary. Atmosphere is alright, but that isn't anything to do with the bar but the people inside at the time. One girl serving the food could perhaps do with a kick up the bottom and told to cheer up. Very miserable and a little rude. Doesn't hurt to say hello when serving food. Wouldn't go back here.

Service was average, burger was actively not nice with a cold, stale bun. Best food on campus as long as you avoid the burgers.

Visited for lunch with colleagues. Nice menu and was looking forward to my wok meal - rice, King prawns and Malaysian green curry.....verdict - bland and tasteless with 5 prawns and one small piece of brocilli....
Really not good enough. A colleague had a vegetarian burger which hit the mark but overall I won't be eating here or spending g money unless reports improve.There are better places to eat on campus.

Let me be honest on most occasions the food is good/great and probably the best on campus. On the other hand it must be said that i dont know how they hire people they are absolutly useless. its self service for cutliary etc which is the best part of the service. i havent seen anyone with a smile on there face unless the staff are showing abit too much PDA with each other. On multiple occasions the staff practically throw your food down to give to you and when you ask for something such as could you wipe the table i got referred to 3 differant people who told me its not my job. Overall they are just plain rude, i really dont understand how they still work there.

Went here to have lunch with friends as had a voucher, went to order and thought everything went through correctly. As they don't serve soft drinks at the fusion counter we went around to top bar where myself and a friend ordered our drinks. My friend ordered a Pepsi which turned out to be the end of the tap however was still served to her which she then returned. I then ordered a lemonade in which the bar staff stopped to take a phone call which is a extremely rude and unprofessional. After this ordeal we were ready to have a good meal and forget about until they brought over our orders which were both incorrect, the waitress, I am unsure of her name then asked for our recipe and blamed us for the fact it was incorrect as we hadn't checked as we felt our order had been taken correctly. This waitress then began to speak to us with an attitude blaming us for the waste of food even though it was her colleagues mistake. After this they brought over our portion of fries we ordered from the incorrect order which was meant to be a side not a starter, this was clearly because they didn't want to cook us another portion of chips. They then brought over our meals with the sweet potato fries which were extremely hard and unpleasant.
I am thoroughly disappointed with the service today and cannot believe the way we were treated, do not bring your business here.

Plus points to this place are varied menu (largely but not completely Asian-influenced), quick and friendly service, and not quite as crowded as some other venues. It also has a healthy selection for veggies. For my taste though the core Asian items, especially the noodles, are rather bland. Spice it up guys!
