We visited the café for brunch. The gardens were as beautiful and well maintained as ever. However, the food in the café seems to have deteriorated. The vegetarian breakfast now includes bland, sausage-shaped squashed up vegetables instead of the nice veggie sausages I’d had previously. My husband ordered a large Victorian breakfast, which was served on a fairly small plate and didn’t look particularly large. The portions generally seemed smaller and didn’t represent value for money in our opinion, at over £32 for 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees.
We were asked to pay as soon as we ordered and when the food was served we weren’t offered any sauces etc., despite a group of staff standing around chatting next to our table.
All in all it was a disappointing meal, and although we’ve been many times in the past, in the future we will visit the gardens but won’t be eating in the café again.

We stopped off for lunch, we were offered a drink before we could order at 12.15. Which is the time that they start serving food. We made our order and were asked to pay immediately. What if we weren't happy with the food?
A good half and hour later the food arrived. The crisps were stale. The salad was smothered in salad cream. Not once we were asked was the food alright. It wasn't very busy with lots of staff so no excuses there.

Lovely little gem can spend a couple of hours walking around taking in the lovely grounds and lakes full of fish, ducks, moor hens etc. the gardens are beautiful with plenty of fruit trees and a well stocked kitchen garden. Some amazing wood sculptures. The glass houses have some very unusual plants and last but certainly not least is the cafe which is open Friday, Saturday and Sundays serving really good tasty food and fantastic choice of cakes. Staff are really nice and friendly. I would recommend this hidden treasure.

Interesting walled garden area, in very pleasant surroundings. The cafe staff, were pleasant, and food quality was excellent, although the Victorian breakfast was overpriced for the amount of food served. Opening hours are also quite limited, so check them out before you visit.

I’m a local, and thought let’s go to walled garden for lunch. So, took the dog and rolled up in the sunshine at 2:10 on Friday 7th. I got a menu, sat right outside the door and awaited service. 25 mins pass, and I go inside to place order. I was stopped by a waitress and she said we’re closed, taking no more orders, then made a fuss about short staff and over worked!!! Quite pathetic… I said you could have told me that 30 mins ago… doubt I’ll be back! There were tables outside and 4 people inside!

Beautiful Gardens so relaxing,Met the geese and the ducks,Had lunch lovely baguettes,Tea made with Tea leaves.Service was exemplary,Wonderful experience.

Looking for a café in an area we used to know well, but had never heard of this place. What a find. Didn't get chance to investigate the garden but sat inside the café, opposite the kitchen.
Expensive fayre, as people have commented, however everything is of a high standard.
Efficient service and a lovely ambience.
Leaf Early Grey tea and an exceptional, individual carrot cake.
We'll be back when next in the area.

This certainly was a hidden treasure even some family members hadn’t heard of it never mind been there x it stopped raining enough for us to walk around the grounds and admire the fruits vegetables and flowers xx oh and a cafe x

We were pretty shocked when our kids’ orders of pancakes arrived and there was only one on each plate. …£9 for two pancakes?!

The surroundings and food are great, staff are friendly and helpful but a bit rushed off their feet, looked like they hadn't had a break all day!

Yes you can take a dog but please place it on a lead so we can protect the crops growing in the kitchen garden and the wildlife (such as birds) near the pond. There are dog bowls of water near the glasshouses. Whilst dogs are not allowed in the café there is a very good gazebo at the back which you can eat/drink and take your dog, which is covered.

The café is now open from 10.00 - 5.00 on Saturdays and Sundays and will son open on Fridays as well.

Thanks for your enquiry. Yes, dogs are welcome on a lead. This is to ensure dogs don't dig or walk on horticultural areas, swim in the ponds frighten our wildlife or young children. We have plenty of dog walkers visit the garden and drinking water is supplied outside the glasshouses. At the back there is a gazebo which dog walkers use as a base on Sundays to consume refreshments.
