Until a few years ago, dogs were not allowed in the garden at all, and there are many of our visitors who do not want to see dogs in the garden. We decided to introduce the half-day option to try and provide a compromise between those who want to bring their dogs and those who prefer a dog-free environment. We do welcome dogs on the parkland and off-lead in East Park as well as in the garden room of the tearoom at all times of the day. We are always reviewing our arrangements, and the National Trust as a whole are looking at how we welcome dogs to our places to try and provide a more uniform policy that will be easier to understand for our visitors. Hello there. It's not an easy place to get to on public transport and could be more hassle than it's worth. Check the National Trust/Sheffield Park Gardens own website for their directions. You can go from Lewes to Uckfield on the train but it's 8 miles to Sheffield Park from there. A fun route would be to take the train to East Grinstead and then the steam train on the Bluebell Railway which stops at Sheffield Park - about 15 mins walk to the gardens. The trains are not very frequent though. Check the Bluebell Railway website.

It was in relation to someone who praised the ‘East Park’ at Sheffield Park, mentioned Canadian traces and eulogised about the helpful teenage restaurant staff - clearly deluded as Wakehurst housed a Canadian contingent in WWII. Sheffield Park restaurant boasts teenagers with appalling customer skills and no hot food before noon.

The whole of the South Park. I would suggest a baby carrier if you have though as the paths are a bit uneven
