Very narrow roads to get there but that’s standard for the area - once you get there there is limited parking. The main building was closed but the gardens were lovely, if a little small for the entry fee. There are some great views over the estuary and it is also the start of a lovely coastal walk to Bolt Head.

great views and a very pleasant garden though it would have been much better were the house open. it's a bit of a hike to walk to (and dont even think about driving as the roads are very narrow)

Most enjoyable visit. A really vast array of different plants & flowers. The view of the estuary from the gardens is magnificent. My wife & I walked there from Salcombe harbour - it was much better than driving ! Sadly due to Covid the museum was closed, as was the cafe, but they did have a small caravan serving refreshments. As National Trust members it was free. I would recommend anyone to join the N.T. as there are so many wonderful places to visit.

Never actually got there, even setting out early on timed admission booking. Horrendous car journey through North/South Sands Salcombe up narrow steep, road winding round with very few passing places. Only one way in and out, jammed car park and no turning places. No NT staff on hand to assist traffic flow. A lot of building work going on in the vicinity, so expect lorries, vans and in our case two cement mixers to completely block the road both ways. Cars were parked in any spaces where the road widens for occupants to walk down to the beaches. If you value your paintwork, clutch and sanity avoid at all costs during high season (when the gardens may well be at their best). Pity, but I doubt we’ll ever try going again.

I don’t usually write reviews of places other than restaurants on Tripadvisor but this is an example of an excellent garden (house not currently open). I’ve visited countless gardens (not reviewed on TA) and this is one of the best with a vast array of plants and trees.

Not a weed in sight. Gardens are very well maintained and some plants are labelled so that you know what they are and if you can’t see a gardener to ask a question, there’s a facility to email and ask.

Everything is well laid out and immaculate.

Note the gardens are on a steep slope and there’s many steps

Excellent value for money

Well the sillies who don't know South Hams can miss out. Yes the road is narrow and parking awkward at busy times. BUT what a garden and location. Stunning garden rooms and views. Special mention to member of staff Ally who was super kind and gracious when we arrived early. Great coffee and sandwich kiosk too. A jewel for the NT. Alternative parking along the coast path. Or get the South Sands ferry from Salcombe and walk up the hill. Simples.

The gardens are excellent with some unusual plants and well laid out and maintained including the woodland area. the views over Salcome estuary are stunning. The trip to the gardens is a bit of an experience with narrow roads and lots of reversing to the passing spaces required but worth it in the end. the house was not accessible during our visit although there was a small van selling drinks and snacks at the entrance. well worth a visit if you get the chance.

Unless you plan on parachuting into this place, don't bother. We booked our time slot through the national trust website, but as the place only offers parking for about 10 cars, we had no chance of getting in. The road approaching the gardens is nothing short of dangerous as there is major construction work near the bay, so you are dodging cement mixers and builders vans. I am just waiting for the national trust to contact me to let me know I didn't attend my time slot that would be an expletive filled conversation. Just don't bother, it's too much hassle.

Stunning gardens that are immaculately kept. However, the single track steep road up to the garden was dangerous and there were limited spaces in the car park.
The road was busy and there was not enough space to safely pass. We had on 3 occasions to reverse up the hill to allow cars to pass. Perhaps a traffic light system would be safer.

What a stunning little gem!! Visited on a very sunny day and was bowled over by Overbecks for many reasons. Firstly, the views are breathtaking and hit you as soon as you enter the gardens and fo down the steps to the terrace. Secondly the gardens are beautifully kept and the love and care that the gardeners and volunteers put into the upkeep is repaid by spectacular plants and woodland. Thirdly, the little food hut opposite the property entrance provides a delicious selection of grub and drinks. Buy your coffee and cake, or lunch baguettes and take them into the gardens, find a seat or bench and just relax as you eat and take in the views! Lastly, the staff and volunteers are simply brilliantly friendly and so helpful. Be warned though, Salcombe in school holiday times is a difficult place to navigate…but stay patient, persevere, and you’ll be rewarded with a brilliant visit to Overbecks
