On a recent visit to Halifax we visited the Minster. It's interesting for a short, say 30 minute visit but not as grand as York Minster. On the plus side the staff/volunteers inside the Minster are very helpful and you can ask them anything. They are a real credit to the Minster. One tip - look out for the Robert Thompson Mouseman chairs and see if you can find all the mice.

Lovely minster, staff more than happy to answer questions. We visited here due to thr Anne Lister connections and her tombstone was on display. Limited parking nearby but a stunning building.

A welcoming place with friendly staff. Plenty of memorials to read and history to absorb. A huge organ (which you should try to hear) and an art display on my visit. Good to see a church which is well carefed for.

We were welcomed by a lady who gave us some brief information about the Minster and you can pick up a leaflet which you can use as you wander round as it explains the history of it and about the various items you are passing, like the gorgeous stained glass windows and chapels. Look up at the ceiling in the knave to view the 92 painted wooden panels representing the coats of arms of the first 30 vicars local families and twelve tribes of israel. Ann Lister who lived at nearby Shibden Hall was baptised and buried there.

I visited The Minster thinking it would be an interesting place. I found the leaflet didn’t contain much information, apart from some comment about the windows. The vicar walked straight past me and didn’t speak, not a very welcoming place.

This is a beautiful church, tucked away just off the main road through Halifax, well worth a visit, whether you're into medieval archtecture or just fancy a bit of calm....

This is a beautiful old church. They have Eucharist every Sunday morning and there is also the possibility of tours on some days. It has a wonderful history, including being open to the non-conformist minister in town when such was considered heresy.
