Totally insufficient parking facilities for a country park where almost everyone will have to drive (and spend a decent amount of time there). Many cars driving round and round the small car park with engines idling.
After a frustrating half an hour polluting the park, we drove away.

We've been visiting stover Park over a number of years, while staying near by. and never tire of it. Great walks, good for dogs. Lovely picnic areas for families. Plenty of wild life. Work is going on at the moment to upgrade facilities & information centre, so there are mobile loos..

What a beautiful place for a nice flat walk, bit muddy in places but mostly tarmac walkways, lake, watercourse, loads of wildlife, really enjoyable afternoon out, even a coffee shack in carpark if you want refreshments

IMPORTANT DOG OWNERS please read. Sadly I do not recommend this park to anyone who has children or dogs that are sensitive to loud bangs. whilst it really is the most beautiful place full of wildlife and the conservation work and educational facilities they offer are brilliant, there was constant shooting going on nearby, the bangs were excruciatingly loud. our rescue dog was terrified and we had to cut our visit short to get away from the sound of gunshot. when we asked we were told that it was clay pigeon shooting at the nearby school which is part of the curriculum! we travelled a long way to visit the park and were expecting a lovely quiet walk, we certainly didn't expect our family pet to leave traumatized, there should be some warning on the website when shooting is taking place nearby. I wish I had seen other reviews on this page before visiting the Park, it seems like this happens on a Thursday but I am not sure if it also happens at other times, There should be some form of warning on shooting days, it is unbelievably loud and non stop. Horrible! Very disappointed.

Reasonable price for parking. Lovely walks through woods or round the lake. Lots of information on display and trails to follow. Great for dog walking and taking kids. There was a coffee wagon open when we were there which looks like a regular thing. Also picnic tables dotted around various areas.

Lovely peaceful walk through well tarmac paths, even our dog enjoyed herself. Nice coffee near car park and the price of car park was exceptional value unlike other places in Devon. Take note council officers as I heard that parking in Plymouth is £8.80 for 4 hours! Robbery, it will not welcome visitors back.

This historic park is a haven for wildlife that is easily accessible and wheelchair friendly. The circuit around the lake is very even. There is a raised platform area overlooking some bird feeders that are well-frequented by a variety of tits and finches. The lake itself hosts waterfowl including Mandarin Ducks and Goosander. The car parking fee is reasonable.

Stover was a beautiful place for a walk but sadly in the name of conservation they have felled swathes of trees, over worked the grounds and ruined the natural beauty for hundreds of years. It has been completely ‘over embellished’ with tacky installations for children which are totally unnecessary as they should just be out enjoying nature as one did in the good old days. Increased car parking will mean the park is over used which then defeats the purpose of going for a nice country walk. I can’t believe this has been allowed. Leave nature as it is and stop wasting the money you have been given. Won’t be going there again despite it being one of my favoured walk for years.

Hello, we are looking to hold our annual family picnic at your park, on the 30th June this year, is there a suitable spot for us to set up a few tables and chairs, close to the car park? Many thanks, Kate.

Hi - there are several places for chairs and tables to be set up for a picnic. We have several picnic tables and seats near the visitor centre and around the lake path. There a nice clearing to the right of the visitor centre. If you need advice on the day - just pop into the visitor centre :-)

Sorry, there is no formal play area. There are various things to do like feeding the ducks, walking along the aerial walkway, watching wildlife from the bird hide and playing woods.

We visited recently with my powerchair which just managed the route around the lake. We saw someone using a hired scooter & wondered how we could hire one to go on the longer routes & also how much does it cost.

Morning - The Tramper here is part of a scheme run by Countryside Mobility South West, which has a great website listing all countryside sites with trampers. To join the scheme costs £10 annually which covers training and insurance while using it. There is a £2.50 temporary membership which covers two weeks for visitors on holiday or would like to try using it once. Stover has a £2.50 hour hire for each time its used. You can join on site and its straight forward and takes about 20 minutes. If you call the Rangers Office on 01626 835236, we will be a happy to advise an answer any questions..

Best to ask at the information office first. A couple of days ago there were notices up requesting that people did NOT take any ivy or holly - but given it was Christmas they could have been in danger of being denuded!

Are there any admission charges to the nature reserve?

No there is no admission charge but you do have to pay for parking

We are looking forward to visiting the park soon and are hoping to bbq's for lunch in the picnic area. I couldn't find any information regarding whether this is allowed when looking through the website. Would you clarify this for me please? I use a portable gas unit but I am sure others reading this will also be interested in using charcoal bbq's. Thanks.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to this question. I would advise you to simply call up the Stover Park information desk and ask them. Enjoy!

Is Stover Country Park dog friendly? If you do allow dogs are they restricted to certain areas and can they be let off their lead or do they need to be kept on a lead?
Kind regards,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Yes Stover Country Park is dog friendly and is popular with dog walkers.
We ask that dogs be kept out of the lake, and under control (either on a lead or walking to heel).
The bird nesting season is almost upon us so there will additional signs to help prevent disturbance to the wildfowl as they begin to nest.
If you need any advice please contact the Rangers at the visitor centre or call us on 01626 835236

Hi there,
I just wondered on the off chance, do you provide such activities as a gruffalo hunt, or a spot the insect/ collect a stick, find the oak tree sheet or anything to keep little minds active?
Obviously when we visit next we plan to do such a thing, with our own ideas ( if that's ok?)
But wasn't sure if a nature adventure was available by yourselves at all?
Regards
Mrs P

Thank you for your message.
We do have small range of ‘spotter sheets’ available in the Ranger’s office. They consist of birds, animals, insects and tree leaves. There is also a brass rubbings trail - we provide a map to locate 12 wooden posts with animal brass plates attached, which with paper and crayons, can be drawn over and collected.
There is a small charge of 10p for the spotter sheets and 30p for the brass rubbings trail as we provide the paper and crayons.
If you have any further questions please let us know. The Rangers office telephone number is 01626 835236 or email stover@devon.gov.uk.
Hope this information is useful.
Many thanks,
Jon

I am wanting to visit and bring my young children for a bike ride (we have a trailer too) Is it suitable for leisurely bike rides? Or are they not permitted or uneven surfaces etc? Thank you

Morning Hayley,
Thanks for enquiry. We have a designated cycle route through the park which is tarmacked. It can be found near the main car park. It leads to the Stover Trail which is off road and runs north to Bovey Tracey and south to Newton Abbot. This route is also tarmacked and signposted.
There is no cycling around the Lake or other areas of the park .
Hope this information is useful - please let us know if you have any further questions.
Regards
Jon
