A huge collection of interiting and nostalgic articles and displays of bygone days, though many in living memeory ... for those of a certain age. All dsiplays are well presented and many of the articles familiar to most of us. A really good place to visit, though 'Beck Isle Museum' downplays the intention; surely another name would be more apprpriate and encourage more people to visit?

What an interesting museum - showing the heart of Pickering and Ryedale over the last few centuries. Beautifully laid out with lots of displays set out by occupation which made it especially interesting.
The volunteers that man the museum are very helpful, and will answer any questions, and if you have children (we didn't) there is plenty to keep them amused and stimulated also.
Very well worth a visit.

A real gem of a place, our group of 8 happily spent a couple of hours here. The volunteers are really welcoming and helpful. The exhibitions are many and varied and really do take you back to past times in different settings. It was great value for money and would certainly recommend as a great place to go.

Our first visit to this museum.
It is hidden on the other side of the railway in Pickering with a lovely stream and garden.
A beautiful setting.
It only looks small but there is far more to see than you expect with lots of stories about local people and businesses.
Also some lovely old pictures of the people and area around Pickering.
Well worth a visit.

This is a great museum for visiting for an hour or two. Rooms are set up to display by gone times. Well worth the £8 entrance. Highly recommend.

A visit is a must to learn and, or, reminisce about the past! Well presented displays, with all items in excellent condition and many specific to the local town and area of Pickering. A wonderful little museum with cheerful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. An added attraction was the Historic Guided Town Walk (Monday & Thursday afternoon) extremely well led and guided with expert knowledge by John and Carol.

My wife and I recently attended the guided walk of Pickering offered by The Beck Isle Museum with our twin 7 year old grandchildren. The walk was conducted by John Kinghorn.
John was born in Pickering and is quite clearly passionate about his birthplace.
The walk lasted about two hours and was full of interesting facts of local, national and possibly international significance. John has obviously researched the town’s history and personalities in depth and is able to add his personal knowledge of the town and its characters from his own experiences and memories.
I would describe the walk as gentle with a couple of small hills to negotiate. If you have any mobility problems I would suggest contacting the museum in the first instance for guidance.
The museum too is well worth a visit. Full of varied exhibits from a range of bygone eras on a range of subjects. My wife and I had visited the museum on a previous occasion.
We thought the fees for adults and children were good value for money.

The problem with Pickering is it is an old village and with someone in a wheelchair it’s not very easy so we could not do much
The coffee shop had steps no ramps only one was good enough
That was a costa not a good place as far as ease to get about

This is so interesting, many items we could remember from our childhood years or from our grandparents houses.
Easy to find, it's tucked away behind the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in Pickering. Only costs £8 per adult and there is so much to see, we particularly liked the shops scene. There is even exhibits outside showing different trades and occupations that used to be in Pickering and also in towns and villages all over the UK.

Great little museum live displays of printing and forge kept our 13 year olds entertained and quiet for a while without a tablet in her hand well worth a visit

Very much so, there is so much of a cross section of things to do for all ages, even snakes and ladders in the games room at the end of the tour.

My husband and I are visiting London in September for our 50th wedding Anniversary. As part of this trip I would love to travel to North Yorkshire and especially to the Brawby, Mallon, Pickering, Kirby Misperton area since my husband’s ancestors came from there. It would be the Norton and Noble families. Some were baptized in the St Mary the Virgin Church. Would this be in Brawby? I know names of churches change and such but I wanted to start with this.
