Charlotte’s “cottage” is much more of a house. Nice and secluded in the corner of Kew Gardens. You could easily miss it although well signposted.

Well hidden cottage showing the simplicity of a royal cottage, is not in fact that simple. Love the in character staff who greet you at the entrance. It is a small venue and you go through it in a couple of minutes. Still lovely to visit the secluded corner of Kew Gardens.

Unfortunately closed so we couldn’t view the cottage inside. It is in a lovely secluded location and backs on to a pretty oak wood with lots of bluebells.
Worth the walk, and very envious of this charming picnic location for the royal family.

The main picture here is not Queen Charlotte’s cottage but Kew Palace! Queen Charlotte’s cottage is at the other end of the park, tucked away in a wooded area (bluebell wood in the Spring) near the redwood grove. It is an 18th century thatched cottage (a large house to most people but obviously a cottage to the wealthy aristocracy) built as a gift for Queen Charlotte from her beloved husband King George. She used it as a retreat from the main house (and her 15 children no doubt). It is closed to the public at present.

Tucked away to one side of the park this is worth taking a detour for to explore what was private haven for Queen Charlotte.

My husband and I did not have time to fully enjoy the Kew Gardens but we made a point of walking through the cottage and it was a delight. It was quaint and using your imagination you could see the children playing and enjoying afternoon tea in the garden themed room. Well worth the short walk.

This is an 18th century thatched cottage and was a private haven for Queen Charlotte. The cottage grounds boast one of the finest bluebell woods in London and is 300 years old. Currently closed for winter, it will reopen in spring 2018.

Love Kew gardens. Amazing place however would hang on visiting until everything has been renovated. Charlotte house was closed too. Also be aware the palm house closes about half an hour before the gardens. So make sure you get in there!

Lovely building in the grounds of Kew but for some reason the interior is not open to the public. It seems to be used as a storage location. It is therefore a little misleading to highlight it as a feature on the literature. Nice if you stumble across it but not worth actually seeking out.
