Really enjoyed this exhibit - some videos detailing the amazing history of the plant's development and rollout of their own power service which was well ahead of it's time.

Coming from Tasmania we were all raised thinking we were the champions of Hydro Electricity. The ingenuity of all Outback people never ceases to amaze me and this is carried on in the modern day with the hologram displays of today.

Fascinating to see that the first hydro power plant in Australia (third in the world behind Parisand London) was in the small town of Thargomindah

This is an excellent presentation of a part of history about which the district can be justly proud. Entry is via a swipe card which can be bought at the excellent Visitor Information Centre for $5, and allows entry to the Power Plant, the Old Hospital and the Old Jail. It's well worth $5

This was an interesting display both in and around the Hydro Power Plant the hologram was informative and entertaining. Access was by a swipe card which can be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre.

This is accessed with a swipe card bought from the information centre. Great audiovisual displays in this, the hospital and the jail.

The town of Thargomindah was one of only three in the world ( others: London and Paris) to have electric street lighting. Power was supplied by a 90 metre deep bore producing enough water under pressure to operate a Pelton wheel which in turn powered the electric generator. The display has a working reproduction set-up which can be switched on via a touch card available from the Information Centre. Also on display are other forms of power generation, plus a picnic area.
