What an amazing true story of the sacrifice made by the villages of Eyam... the museum gives you the true history of the plague and how the plague arrived in the village and what the villages did to stop it spreading. If you take a walk through the village you can see the house where the plague started.. other plaques around the village really bring the history to life...if you have visited the museum a walk around the village makes the plaques mean more..a true testament of strength that they decided to sacrifice themselves to stop the plague spreading...

A small but very informative museum based in an old church, set in a beautiful village!
It was a little cramped due to the amount of visitors but then it was the summer holidays.
It has all the info I would imagine you need on the plague. Easy to understand for all ages.
Cute little gift shop.
Low admission prices reflect the size of the museum.
Toilets are in a separate block just over the road/car park.
After we had looked around the museum we used the map to walk through the village looking at the churchyard and the plague cottages.
There is also a courtyard with a beautiful homeware/garden gift shop and cafe.
Further up the hill is a marketplace with two cafe’s and stunning Peak District scenery.

What’s an amazing hidden gem? We had the most best time on Saturday morning. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the lady on the counter who helped us with bus timetables et cetera for our chips later on in that day and also it was only £4 to go into this museum that was full of detail and he took an hour to an hour and a half to go round so well worth the £4 interest for children too, notice that there was a village so just an extra £3 we joined it oh my gosh what fun that was Paul who was running the walk had us into playing was full of knowledge and it was just a really good pleasant fun walk and he even dropped us off at even dropped us off at the bus station. Highly recommend the visit

Lots of great information about the village’s history and the plague, although the panels were a little confusing to follow at times - often with disjointed information and introduction of overwhelmingly many characters. Obviously very passionate about trying to tell as many of the personal village stories as possible, which is commendable, but not necessarily digestible. This would be best enjoyed with the time and space to read every sentence at leisure.
Would be perfect for children, lots of interactive sections and good explanations of the plague.
Can be cramped with not much room to move around, when busy (we went on a July Thursday afternoon).
Very reasonably priced, only £4 for adults, not trying to rip us off like other peak district attractions (Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House, etc.)
Overall, an informative experience. Sad they took down the World Wars exhibition, could have also been fascinating.

Larger than it looks museum, over two floors. Very interesting local accounts and actual letters and artefacts from the time of the plague1666. Short film, statistics and understanding of plague spread and effects over the UK and the World. Dress up for kids. A detailed paper map available for £1 to find all the surviving graves, places of interest and the boundary stone. Not all routes suitable for mobility issues. Staff are friendly and a small gift shop, reasonable priced with very 'different' gifts plague related! Very interesting in relation to Covid and the local genetics and geology. Discussions of the village's recovery after 1/3 of them died. There are QR codes for more info, which I personally hate. (You can skip anything you find not interesting but no one scans QR codes whilst they are there,- one in depth one about the key workers was over 1 hour long, very interesting but could have been condensed into a display item. I took a photo and listened at home. Well worth the £4 entry or £8 to do also a 75 min guided walk.(subject to one being available, which it wasn't on our visit. However it's all on the map mentioned above). Interesting day out. **STAFF- Incidentally the postcard questionnaire QR code comes up 'not found ' so was unable to do the survey. However enjoyed the day and will visit the beautiful area again sometime.

Combined tickets for the museum and tour are £7 if you are thinking of joining us again.
We really appreciate your feedback about the QR codes and are working on sorting the issue.
Kind regards,

A small museum but full of history and information of how the village of Eyam dealt with the tragedy of The Plague.
Well worth a visit, not for just the museum but also the village itself.

Really enjoyed this place. Fascinating and sad history of a small town's fight against smallpox. I have served on museum board of directors and can say this was very well done. Eyam a quaint village with lovely scenic pastures and hills.

We purchased a combined ticket for the great value price of £7 for museum entry and a 75 min tour of the village. Highly recommended. Really interesting and informative and such a sad period in history for the village- they were so brave! Tours operate most days (not in winter) at 11.30 and 2pm.

A very good museum especially if you pay the extra for a guided walk of the town. This was very informative, backing up what was in the museum and adding extra information too. Covers most of the important places that are on the map and guides people to the extra places. Comparison to Covid Pandemic is amazingly honest and real.

How long does it take to explore the museum? When i try booking it gives me a 15 min slot (3pm - 3.15pm) does this mean we only have 15 mins to explore or does it mean we have to arrive within this time? This is also the last slot available so does this mean the museum shuts at 3.15?
撰写日期:2021年7月10日
You’ll need about an hour maximum . The time slot you’re given is the time slot you have to enter the museum for your visit. It’s standard practice for museum visits in these pandemic times. Enjoy your visit, and make to explore the village itself.

Hi,
I'm staying in the Peak District for my holidays this year and would like to visit the museum. However, I will have my dog with me as I cannot leave her alone in our holiday rental. Are dogs allowed in the museum?
Many thanks,
Sharon.
撰写日期:2017年5月31日
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. We allow dogs into the museum if they can be carried. Otherwise they can be tied up outside with a bowl of water.
撰写日期:2017年7月19日
Sorry but have no idea on this. As it`s staffed by volunteers, I would think that there is a good chance that it will be open, but please check with the venue before travelling.

Hi
I wanted to ask about any walking tours in the village. Do I need a guide or can I simply just walk around the village without further info booklets? Plz advise as I wish to come here but the info is very limited on parking and what to see.
撰写日期:2015年2月21日
Many people have posted information - I will add some that may not be there. Eyam Hall, managed by the National Trust, arranges organised tours of the village - contact them and they can give you details. The museum has free leaflets that give a couple of simple short walks around the village. The Church has an illustrated schematic map of the village with information on the cottages and other buildings - this costs 70p. The stewards in the museum and the Church are a fount of village knowledge and if you have any particular landmark you hope to visit - ask their advice. I hope you have a great time when you visit.
