Eyam Hall looks beautiful and I would have enjoyed a visit. However, the hall and the grounds were still shut due to COVID, even though all venues were open at the time of our visit.
As for the craft centre, it consisted of a bar which wasn't serving food on the day we visited, a very expensive homeware shop and a small shop selling hot drinks, sandwiches and ice cream (where the staff seemed very indifferent to customers). The only available seating it outdoors.
Very disappointing.

I paid £3.25 for an American coffee and threw it away as it was extremely weak and massively overpriced

If you are visiting the ‘Plague Village’ of Eyam in Derbyshire, make sure you visit Eyam Hall, if it is open again to visitors.

Eyam Hall is a wonderful example of a small Jacobean Manor House. It was constructed in 1672, just six years after the plague in Eyam, so you cannot help but wonder why it was built there so soon after a devastating plague had torn the village apart and caused the deaths of so many of its inhabitants. It’s been owned and inhabited by the Wright Family for many generations now, and it seems that Thomas Wright built the home there on land already owned by his father.

I had visited the hall some years ago when it was part of the National Trust. That affiliation was discontinued some years ago, and visits to the interior of the hall are, I believe, managed directly by the family. Due to COVID restrictions it was closed and visits were not permitted when we were there earlier this month, but when visitors are again allowed in, do take the opportunity to do so. You’ll see lots of artefacts such as family portraits, pieces of furniture and personal items which have belonged to the Wright family since inhabiting the house. The hall’s garden was also delightful to visit then; it was beautifully manicured and awash with seasonal colour. Peering through the delicate ironwork of the front gateway, it seems that would still be the case on your visit.

Adjoining the hall, in a spacious courtyard, you will find the hall’s former stable yard. In normal times it contains a craft centre with a collection of locally run craft units, and a cafe / restaurant; the courtyard provides the perfect place to find gifts and refreshments while enjoying your day in Eyam. With COVID restrictions the various craft units were closed, but the delightful cafe, called ‘The Nook’ (a part of the ‘Coolstone’ restaurant set-up there), was open for takeout and was serving an astonishingly delectable array of sandwiches, cakes, pastries, slices and the like, as well as decent hot drinks.

The craft centre used to be a lovely place to visit. Sadly, as the National Trust has given up its lease on Eyam Hall, it has also closed its gift shop and book shop. The Crafty Red Fox has also closed. Jewellers, garden and beer shop remain.

Thank you for your review. They are very important to us both good and bad. Most of the Courtyard is closed in January and I'm not sure when you last visited but I just wanted to point out that although the Crafty Red Fox has indeed moved on, Eyam Real Ale (the beer shop) has taken over the unit and have created a wonderful brewery where you can try their beers and also still buy other beer and cider. The volunteers who ran the book shop under the NT have carried it on, so it is still here and still for charity. There is not a garden shop on site, we have Dandelion Clock which has a fantastic array of gifts and homewares. They do have some garden items outside so maybe that is where the confusion lies. As you state the Jewellers is very much still here and we now have a Yoga studio too. Last but not least we have a new management team in the Coolstone restaurant who have created a fantastic menu and are open every day until 5pm offering a wide selection of breakfast, lunch and cakes. They will be opening some evenings as well in the next few months. I hope you can come back and review us again in the future as I hope you will find it to be even better than when the NT were running it.

Popped in to the beer shop and book shop and the jewellers. Friendly staff and nice to have a little look where it’s not pushy.

A tale of 2 parts; the Hall used to be managed by the National Trust on behalf of its owners, but this arrangement has been terminated. I believe that the hall may occasionally be opened, but it did seem rather hit and miss and we missed it.

However, some interesting places in the craft centre. There's quite a large cafe although we didn't use it and so I can comment on it. We did go into a couple of the shops.

There's a wonderful jewelers where you can watch the jeweler making the items for sale. Interestingly, it included items of jet, normally associated with Whitby in North Yorkshire; it turns out that's where the jeweler came from. Some wonderful and unique pieces of work made by a true craftsman.

We also went into the garden/flower shop. Again, some lovely and unusual items made this a great place to both browse and buy.

The Eyam brewery is also based in the centre, although they are moving their main production to larger premises. There was a fantastic range of bottled beers, including those from other local brewers. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have a cask ale to try, although they did have a very palatable keg craft IPA. The brewery provides both inside and outside drinking areas.

All in all, lovely craft centre, shame about the hall.

A cafe / restaurant, gift shop, Eyam brewery and second hand book shop all sit within the Craft centre. Eyam hall itself seems rarely open to the public displaying only being open b/w Apr-Jun 2019.

This house is not cheap to go around and people seemed put off. However the tour is only a few people at a time and there is so much to see. It was well worth it. The guide had so much to tell us. I would say this is a must. However check when they are open before you visit. There is a car park over the road.
