Interesting place - a good wander around. The reception desk is not very friendly. The grounds are a bit run down, but I think they are working on improvements. Worth the visit if you are in that area, but wouldn't make a special trip just for this

Radi ideme s detmi do tohto skanzenu, ked sme u svokrovcov vo Svidniku. Personal je mily a ustretovy. Prijemna prechadzka, zaujimava historia, pekny dreveny kostolik. Parkovanie je ok.

well kept open air museum, lots of old and farm houses and examples of past culture and life mostly in east Slovakia. A possibility of refreshments in the summer time. recommend.

Museum well kept example of folk life in slovakia. I highly recommend a visit. Easy access. Includes a wooden church.

Vale la pena una visita per capire ed apprezazre un pò di storia e tradizioni.. la giornata piovosa ed il fatto che comunque avessimo già visitato altri musei all'aperto della stesso tipo (Vlkoline e Pribilina) ci ha fatto desistere dall'entrare, pue essendo arrivati fin qui, e fare il giro per intero, limitandoci ad una vista "esterna".. ma se non c'è stata occasione di altre visite, fatelo pure qui.

Open Air Museum in Svidnik has a number of farm houses, which you expect in such a museum. What adds to the experience is a water mill with a saw installation for huge logs, and, a real treat, a complet wooden church. Also the cattle, walking around you anywhere at the site, is fun. The rebuilt school - instruction in Cyrillic - illustrates the educational part. Great value! There were 6 visitors totally, including us... We parked in the museum itself, near the ticket booth.

Outdoor museum with houses from past centuries. Located on outskirts of svidnik town. Got car park for up to 10 cars but 5-10 minutes walking distance (up the hill ) is another car park with plenty of spaces. Entrance fee about 1euro per person. There is small coffee serving drinks and simple food but I guess I'd open in season only . There is quite few houses to look at, all in great condition, with lots of history . You can spend good few hours there and not get board - kids can run everywhere and it's safe as there is no tragic at all. Worth to have a look if you are around this area

Ce skanzen n'est pas le plus connu ni le plus grand de Slovaquie mais il a un charme fou. Les maisons sont remises en état et entretenues par un monsieur qui se débrouille tout seul ou presque. La possibilité de manger un petit bout de spécialité slovaque sur place est super sympa, celle ci préparée par une "petite" dame très gentille. Un très bon moment passé la bas.

I appreciated the sawmill, the blacksmith shop, and the farm animals. There was a cross section of different living standards evidenced in house and barn construction. Interesting to compare this museum with the one at Sanok, Poland. This one was self-interpreted. In Sanok, we needed a guide. We were the only visitors on the day of our visit, maybe because the season hadn't really begun.

The site may be a Slovak Open Air Museum, but it really focuses on the Rusyn people of the Carpathian Mountain area of Eastern Slovakia, Poland and the Ukraine. I toured several of the open air museums in the area, and I must say that this is the best of them all. The recreated village of the Rusyn's contains a typical family home, wooden church, schoolhouse, fire station, and other buildings typically found in a Rusyn village of the 18th and 19th century. Animals roam freely, so you may come into close contact with goats, sheep, and ponies. There is also a small restaurant should you wish to sample some of the local food. This village is a must see if you are in the area, especially if your heritage is Slovak or Rusyn, like me.
