Unfortunately the tower was closed when we got there, but the location did give great views over the area. It was a climb to get there, but well worth the effort.

We spent a very interesting hour in the tower looking around the island with the Camera Obscura and being told tales of the islands past and present. Loved it!

We were roaming around St Mary's on a day trip from Cornwall. Nice tower, great views and walking distance from the center of Hugh Town.

A visit to Mr Obscura never fails to be entertaining. What more could you want; interesting physics, a stationary tour around St Mary's, good banter and a cornucopia of odd objects!

My mum suggested we should visit.
Walked the steep hill to get there.
Realised it was cash only.
Borrowed from our ten year old boy after a brief discussion of financial benefit.
It was a turn out of the ordinary.
A combination of history and quirky personality to while away an hour or so.
Whole hearted effort representing his hobby and passion.
Well worth the time and money for a unique experience.

Having looked longingly at the tower for many years now, it was amazing to finally go inside - and a real delight to find the camera there. Andrew gave us a fascinating insight into the views you are seeing, along with a few very funny stories. The climb up to the top probably isn't for everyone, but our kids thought it was a great adventure!

We arrived at approx 13.30hrs to find that the camera closed at 12.00, still completely our fault, we should have followed the clues....... the camera website does say that they are open when the bunting is hung up outside..... we failed to follow that basic clue..... the climb was well worth the view provided by this high point, views across Hugh town not to be missed on a sunny day.

While staying on holiday on St Mary's we visited the camera obscura, it was £5 to go in. But especially if he is not busy you get a great talk, we had been there a week and knew our way round a bit, so could see where things were, the gentle man operating the camera was very interesting and knowledgeable. He had a lot of background information to and colour and interest to the visit and our understanding of the island.

We spent a lovely hour here at the excellent Camera Obscura. The images of Hughtown and the surrounding islands were brilliant. We learned lots about the area and rate it very highly. The best £5 I have spent here. Don't miss it, when the bunting is on display it is open.

Having looked at the tower for 5 days we finally visited the tower on our last day and spent over an hour and a half there, all for a fiver.
My first visit to a camera obscura, I doubt if there is another one like this.
Lots of useful info and loads of gossip.
Not easy to access so not suitable for people with mobility issues or a fear of the dark!
