This is an excellent place to visit if you have any interest in the archeology of Brescia. In particular the republican archeology which was only unearthed eight years ago with excellent wall frescos and amazing terrazzo floors which you would think were made this century. The next part of the visit includes the temple sanctuaries built in the Augustan period with an amazing bronze statue of winged victory. This is followed by the other remains of a roman theatre and other archeological remains.

The entry to this attraction can be included with the marvellous Santa Giulia Museum. Entry is by timed ticket and your tour will start 10 minutes after the time set. You have time to explore the exterior of the temple and walk to the nearby Roman Theatre. You will then be admitted in a small group to review the remains of a Republican Temple with the wall decorations intact. You then go to the Imperial temple where you can view the bronze statue of winged victory found on the site. You will be guided through the site in English and given time to view the bronze statue

You don't expect to find this Capitolium walking through the city's hilly streets. We arrived here thanks to the city game of the Questo app that we found on offer on tripadvisor. The kids loved it too! I recommend it 100% because it is an enjoyable and fun way to do a tour of the center at your own pace, visit the main points of interest and receive curious information.

Built by Vespasian in 73 AD, as attested by the inscription on the pediment, it was built over an earlier Republican temple of which some floors and part of the frescoed walls remain. Inside was placed the famous Winged Victory, bronze statue of the first century AD Finally, a little further to the right we have the theater. In 2011 the complex was declared a World Heritage Site by U.N.E.S.C.O. A must for those visiting Brescia. The site is fully accessible thanks to a couple of elevators and a retractable elevator.

The Capitoline Temple and Piazza del Foro represent the best preserved part of the passage of the ancient Romans in the past Brizia. Subject suitable for souvenir photos.

Beautiful sunny day. We decided to go to Brescia to visit the two most important monuments of the city, capital of culture 2023, the archaeological park of Roman Brixia and the museum of Santa Giulia, declared a world heritage site in 2011. The visit is included in the Lombardy region museum card. Reservations are recommended for access to the republican sanctuary and the Capitolium as, in order to maintain the ideal microclimate for the conservation of the frescoes and works on display, it is necessary to limit admissions. The other portions are open and free to access. In the republican sanctuary we can admire four large halls with fresco decoration, dating back to between 100 and 80 BC. C., attributable to the initial Pompeian style and attributable to workers from central Italy, works of great importance for their state of conservation and pictorial quality. You can observe Ionic semi-columns painted in correspondence with columns covered in stucco, fake polychrome marble slabs supported by a frame below which a curtain is depicted that uncovers the masonry underneath. The decoration is enriched by details and shading that allude to the light that must have entered through the classroom door. Beeswax and olive oil were spread on the painted surfaces to make them brighter in imitation of the reproduced marbles. The Capitolium was the main temple of the Roman city dedicated to the Capitoline triad, Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Inside, with paid entry, one can observe the original parts of the decoration and furnishings of the cells, the opus sectile floors dating back to the century AD C., the altars in Botticino stone, two heads of female statues attributable to Minerva and a bearded male (perhaps a philosopher or a Silenus), the white marble fragments of the statue of Jupiter, a monumental candelabra in Botticino stone intended for lighting of the sacred environment and, on the walls, a collection of altars, honorary and sepulchral inscriptions, milestone funerary steles. The most significant piece is naturally the Winged Victory, a bronze masterpiece dating back to the mid-1st century AD, located in the eastern hall of the Capitolium after careful restoration work carried out by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure of Florence. This wonderful work has returned to the place where it was brought to light in 1826, during the archaeological investigation campaign that led to the discovery of the main monuments of the area. The heads of six imperial statues were also found in a cavity in the temple, now exhibited at the Santa Giulia museum with other bronze finds, perhaps hidden here in a period of crisis to avoid melting and reuse. Believe me... it leaves you breathless with its beauty, elegance, attention to detail and realistic effect. It is a winged female figure just under two meters high with an incomplete posture due to the loss of some elements that completed its gesture and balance: the left foot must have rested on the helmet of Mars while with the left arm Victory held a shield on which the winner's name was engraved. The body is covered in a light chiton, perhaps tied at the top by two clasps now lost, the dress falls over the right shoulder leaving the breasts exposed. The lower portion of the body is covered by a himation, a cloak that wraps around the legs and hips. The hair is styled with a chignon and held back by a band with myrtle leaves on the sides of a central rosette. The figure is completed by two large wings characterized by long feathers. The visit ends at the Roman theater with its characteristic hemicycle shape dating back to the Augustan age and subject to expansion and reconstruction in the following centuries: between the 2nd and 3rd centuries the architectural decoration of the scene was redone. The cavea is partially nestled on the slope of the Cidneo hill and this aspect constitutes its most suggestive element.
A significant and well-preserved archaeological route not to be missed.

Surprising because you are walking through the narrowest streets of the city and, suddenly, you see this beautiful and spacious square crowned by the reconstructed portico that shows the antiquity of the city.

The Roman city is certainly a must for anyone visiting Brescia, even if it is not the only unmissable attraction of this beautiful city. What can be admired now is actually only a small part of the vast Roman-era complex, visible from a model inside the Palazzo Martinengo Cesaresco (which is also worth a short visit). Don't miss the Capitolium, where you can admire, among other things, the Winged Victory, in a beautiful display, and the Republican Sanctuary. Given the turnout, I recommend booking, even on site. The UNESCO Corridor starts from there and touches the points of the Archaeological Park.

Are the ruins of the Capitolium Temple and the theater free of cost? Do you only pay for the museum? Is the museum called the "Republican Sanctuary"?
撰写日期:2019年5月1日
Yes, but you can buy a ticket that covers five museums in Brescia - well worth the cost.

Hello. Is it possible to walk from the Brescia railway station to this museum? I will be visiting in February. Considering a visit to Brescia as a day trip from Milan. Thanks.
撰写日期:2018年1月14日
It is possible by walking, if you wan't to walk from the city center (which is closer) take the metro from Stazione to Vittoria and walk the last part.
