The result of a truly unedifying period in our history, it is nevertheless very beautiful and airy. Designed in the 1930s by the rationalist architect Marcello Piacentini, it is certainly the most beautiful square of that historical period that I have seen so far. It's a shame, however, that the medieval quarter had to be demolished for its construction.

The Piazza della Vittoria, from an architectural point of view, is influenced by the historical period in which it was designed, that is, the time of fascism.

Una delle migliori piazze dell'Italia post-unitaria. Spesso snobbata solo perché legata al regime fascista che la costruì, oggi epurata anche della statua colossale del Bigio (mannaggia alla cancel culture), si tratta in realtà di un pregevole e purtroppo raro esempio di modernismo razionale italiano, non mancando di richiami al retaggio classico. I palazzi sono volumi netti, puliti, privi di fronzoli e di decorazioni pompose, eppure sono armoniosi e scenografici grazie alla metrica delle semplici forme. Ma la piazza non è solo arte, ma fu anche innovazione tecnologica: qui fu edificato anche il primo grattacielo italiano. All'uso del modernissimo cemento armato fu abbinato felicemente l'uso di rivestimenti marmorei e di materiali più nobili, così da rendere l'aspetto della piazza elegante, classicheggiante e ordinato. Ci ha colpito molto.
