If the dream of creating "the ideal city" - and what remains is only an anonymous painting preserved in Urbino (although recent studies reveal it to be the work of the genius Leon Battista Alberti with the support of Piero della Francesca) - the city that came closest to a structural urban modification, and very modern for the time, was certainly Ferrara, so as to deserve the title of "the first modern city in Europe"; and this thanks to the contribution, at the end of the fifteenth century, of the architect Biagio Rossetti as well as the patronage of Ercole I of the d'Este family; Rossetti succeeded in redesigning the city (although the daring project remained unfinished) through an innovative and revolutionary idea for the time: "the Addition Herculea". In short, those medieval canons that, due to the conformity of the land and waterways, imposed narrow and winding alleys, streets, city streets, he expanded them and laid the foundations for an expansion of the city center through the partial demolition of the ancient walls that allowed the creation of wide, straight streets, intersections at right angles with the intent of making the city more livable and defensible, but above all enhancing the beautiful and monumental palaces, some of which he himself designed and built in the famous Quadrivio degli Angeli:

A unique example for the beauty of the external surface, completely covered with pointed ashlars that follow the shape of diamonds; the inclination and meticulous processing of the ashlars as well as the type of white and pink marble used are able to create perspective effects, plays of light and chiaroscuro truly unique and surprising.
It is thought that the ashlars exceed the number of 12,000.
From here comes the name of the structure. But not the only one:
the Palace is linked to a legend according to which Hercules I had a gem of his crown set in one of the ashlars of the facade, and not trusting the foreman-executor ordered that his tongue be cut out and his eyes plucked out so that he did not detect the exact spot where the diamond was hidden.
Highly recommended site also for the Art Gallery and for the three centuries of history that bind the city to the Este family.

De highlight van dit museum is de facade, die bestaat uit puntige blokken marmer die het palazzo haar naam geven. Het ligt buiten het centrum. Vlakbij is een uitstekende betaalde parking voor €2/dag. Er is een aardige portico. Het museum omvat een schilderijen collectie met beperkte variatie. Van de originele ruimtes is weinig bewaard gebleven. De boekwinkel was dicht. Er is ook een cafetaria.

We were there for the Escher exhibition Beautiful exhibition and very well organized with engaging interactive experiences and on the occasion we admired, exterior and interior, the wonderful architectural structure of the Diamond Palace.

The Palazzo dei Diamanti represents an exhibition area for all the most prestigious exhibitions that pass through Ferrara. Externally the shapes are original but very simple.

To be seen externally but not much more, in my opinion, it has these particular points in the external structure. That's fine but then...internally there are contemporary exhibitions.

the judgment is joint, for the magnificent palace and for the Pinacoteca, which houses wonderful authors and works, including all by Mantegna and the Ferrara school. Worth visiting, time well spent, which repays the soul and senses in beauty.

Gentilissimo, il piano terra, riservato a mostre temporanee, è visitabile soltanto in occasione dell'apertura delle rassegne (la prossima sarà "Courbet e la natura", dal 22 settembre al 6 gennaio). Al primo piano si può visitare la Pinacoteca Nazionale di Ferrara, aperta tutto l'anno, da martedì a domenica dalle 10.00 alle 17.30.

Al primo piano è possibile visitare la Pinacoteca Nazionale di Ferrara. Per maggiori informazioni sugli orari e la collezione esposta, la invitiamo a consultare la loro pagina all'interno del sito delle Gallerie Estensi di Modena.
Il piano terra è invece dedicato alle mostre temporanee organizzate dalla Fondazione Ferrara Arte. La prossima esposizione sarà "Carlo Bononi. L’ultimo sognatore dell’Officina ferrarese" e aprirà il 14 ottobre. Per consultare la programmazione completa delle rassegne può visitare il sito di riferimento di Palazzo dei Diamanti.

Salve, vorremmo andare alla mostra su De Chirico il prossimo weekend. Vorrei chiedere a chi ci è stato ultimamente se i biglietti si fanno direttamente lì in biglietteria oppure occorre farli online prenotando in anticipo.
