We were staying just round the corner so you have to visit and I’m glad we did. I mean it’s €5 per adult well worth the money for a 2/3 hours, if you’re really into it maybe longer. Nice museum with some mind blowing finds that are 2500 year plus old. Nice wander round the gardens, you have to use your imagination a bit but we quite enjoyed it glad we did it.

The museum is small, but the Greek colonization of the surrounding area is very well described. There is also a rather large archaeological site (garden) in which remains of the Greek colony can be seen.

This was one of the most fascinating museums that I visited in Europe. This is a walking museum in that you can tour the galleries of artifacts that have been found on the property and you can go out in the grounds and see where the forts and homes are found.
This site was the first colony of the Greeks when they landed in Sicily thousands of years ago and the mark that they left on the island. You can see by the artifacts that they developed a very sophisticated society here and the archaeologists are still digging and uncovering more here. It is a interesting way to spend the early morning as the weather gets hotter in the afternoon.
I got so much out of this site. It is not just a museum but an outdoor classroom of history of how Sicily was shaped by outside influences and immigration. The Greeks developed this area as a shipping and trading site and you can still these influences today.
This is not a site to miss.

Wer hier große archäologische Wunder erwartet, wird enttäuscht sein. Sehr weitläufig, gut beschildert aber eben nur mehr ein Park. Die Botanik ist beachtenswert.

This was a great way to spend a couple hours after lunch. The museum had a great display of recovered artifacts, and it was interesting wandering the grounds looking at the dig sites. Very close to the dock where the cruise ship tendered.

Easy access to view 700 bc ruins of original Greek colony site on Sicily, great film in museum showing what all the structure looked like originally gives fabulous context based on recovered evidence, and careful stories of excavations over the years brings this ancient archeology site alive for visitors. Bravo!
