Beautiful entrance gate to the city, built in Baroque style in the mid-1500s. In the center is the symbol of Charles V Habsburg and the city's dedicatory epigraph. Near the door there is the obelisk.

Porta Napoli is the “triumph arch” of the city of Lecce. Lecce had a rampart and three gates (San Biagio and Rudiae). The Naples Gate was built in 1548 in anticipation of the visit of Charles V (Carlo V in Italian). Let us not forget that through marriages and alliances, Charles V was the sovereign of Spain, the Netherlands (Belgium and the Netherlands today), Austria and the Kingdom of Naples which included Puglia.

One of the three remaining gates which provided access to the city. Very beautiful monument, well preserved. The ramparts have disappeared but this gate allows you to imagine what the city was like when it still had its stone enclosure.

Porta Napoli is along with Porta San Biago one of the city gates to the fortified medieval city. Likewise the entire old town, the gate shines in its Baroque beauty. It dates back to 16c marking the north-western city entrance from Naples direction.
On the outer side is Lecce new town, while passing through the gate you enter the amazing Baroque old town.

Porta Napoli is the doorway in the Arco di Trionfo di Lecce. It is located near Piazzetta Arco di Trionfo. It is named Napoli because it stands at the end of the road that leads to Naples.
The walls were removed in the nineteenth century, but the arch was kept.
It was built in 1548 in honor of Charles V who had built the fortifications necessary for the defense of the city. It stands on the site of the ancient Porta San Giusto.

Bellissima porta d’ingresso della città, si apre sul centro storico. La porta, edificata nel 1548 in onore di Carlo V che aveva fatto realizzare le opere di fortificazione in difesa della città, sorge nel sito dell'antica Porta San Giusto. Fu voluta dalla cittadinanza e da Ferrante Loffredo, preside della provincia di Terra d'Otranto, per celebrare in maniera emblematica il potere e l'Impero di Carlo V d'Asburgo. Fu così chiamata perché era la strada porta da cui si intraprendeva la via consolare per Napoli. Si presto bene a foto. Da vedere!

Very well take care you won't spend a lot of time seeing the monument, but it is a must to see in Lecce. It light up at night making it even more special
