San Candido - Lienz A very nice experience and an absolute must. Almost all flat track just a couple of climbs not difficult to overcome. Down the road is the Loacker where they serve great coffee and then it's a riot of wafers. You will also encounter bars and almost at the end a delicious little restaurant. Pay attention to the usual rude cyclists who whizz you two centimeters from your bike as if they were going around Italy. But the landscape is worth a trip

I have been coming on holiday to Val Pusteria for 15 years, and the San Candido-Lienz cycle path is a must-see experience. I experimented with all kinds of bikes, because my kids went from 1 to 15 years old. So: cart, then camel, car seat, and finally bike for them too. The cycle path is beautiful, runs along the Drau, is almost all downhill and surrounded by greenery. That said, precisely because I have always done it with the family, there are precautions to follow so as not to risk getting hurt. Yes, it can happen. It has never happened to us, but the risk when there are so many unskilled bikers all on the same road, which sometimes also gives good speeds... well, it exists. I did it again today, and an ambulance was taking a little girl away. Young and old people have fallen in the past, even former CGIL secretary Bruno Trentin ended up in a coma. So, it's a beautiful outing, but you don't have to take security under your skin. My advice: ALWAYS equip yourself with a helmet (rent costs 2 euros, and for something that saves your life it is absurd to save them); avoid the weekends, too crowded; always use the bell provided on each bike when you are about to overtake (it is a kind warning that protects both you and others); pay attention downhill, because the road is not wide, there are cyclists who come in the opposite direction, and when you take speed it is easier to lose control; always keep right, and if you have to stop do not do it in the middle of the road, better go out slowly and stop right on the grass or on the brecciolino to avoid the risk of being rear-ended. Those are the things I tell my kids all the time. Measures that seem trivial, but when there are so many people, often not experts, are basic practice to enjoy the day without risks.

Very crowded in August but always worth it! The landscapes you pass through are fabulous, the slight slope is pleasant. I recommend paying a little attention because unfortunately not all cyclists use caution and respect the rules

An absolutely unique experience. You are catapulted into a fairytale landscape. Almost flat track in its entirety. You come across the Loackers headquarters and from Lines you can return comfortably by train.

Beautiful cycle path, it's a spectacle to do. But if you plan to return by train with bicycles, BEWARE. They sell you the ticket but if there is no room on the train you stay there, hoping for the next ride, otherwise you can also cycle on the return trip (41km) but they don't reimburse you for the cost of the ticket, which is also very expensive.

The cycle path is really beautiful, the only point is that there are very few equipped points where you can stop with benches and tables. The negative thing is the service offered by ÖBB for the return where the bicycles were stowed in a freight wagon-type bicycle transport wagon, however there are no racks or other restraint systems but they are only placed on top of each other with obvious damage to the the paint. I recommend taking the most modern trains, I think they are those offered by Trenitalia where the bikes can be carried on the passenger convoy and are fixed on special supports. Patience is a bicycle but with a few precautions and equipment it would solve the problem.

A walk within everyone's reach to do at least once if you are in the Pusteria Valley. Departure from San Candido where you can rent bikes (citybikes) with automatic gearboxes that are easy to learn even for those who have never ridden a mountain bike. After a very short uphill stretch, the road is a wonderful downhill stretch of about 44 km with destination Lienz-Austria. If you want to experience the feeling of being a child again, when going downhill, release the brakes (always with caution) and stand up on the pedals! The feeling of being immersed in such beautiful nature is indescribable! The bike can also be left in Lienz returning to San Candido by train.

Beautiful cycle path from San Candido to Lienz, approximately 43km and if you want to extend it by 5km, start from Dobbiaco. Beautiful naturalistic views in the middle of the woods with always the babbling of the Drava river accompanying you throughout the journey. I recommend...exit the cycle path at Thal-aue and after crossing the road stop to eat at the gasthauf Aue...nice experience.

Parcheggio gratuito ( fatto ormai eccezionale ovunque) per i clienti di Papin sport a 200 mt dalla stazione, accanto al cui ingresso è situato il noleggio ( prenotato on line). Avvertenza iniziale, prendere dimestichezza con il cambio della bici, perché se no sulla prima rampetta appena fuori dal paese tocca scendere !! Fatto ciò, è tutto in discesa, in tutti i sensi. Doverosa sosta alla Loacker per una colazione dolce dopo 15 chilometri, poi ancora in sella fra estesi prati e rinfrescanti boschi. Arrivo a Lienz dopo 45 km e 3 ore e mezza fra bici e soste. Comodo treno ( uno ogni ora al minuto 50) per il ritorno a San Candido ( il biglietto aperto si può fare alla partenza al momento del noleggio) . Spesa complessiva ×tre adulti 86 euro per bici e accessori ( 2 cestini, 1lucchetto) + 33,90 tratta di rientro in treno + 21 deposito bici al punto di raccolta Papin a Lienza. Esperienza alla portata anche di chi non ha particolare resistenza in bici, senz'altro da ripetere !!

un bambino di 5 anni può fare questo giro in bicicletta? Ha iniziato a pedalare solo 3 mesi fa e non ha molta esperienza. La pista ciclabile deve attraversare strade con auto?

Ci sono dei tratti all'interno del bosco mentre tutto il paesaggio è ovviamente tutto all'aperto. Se si tratta di una tipica pioggerella può andar bene altrimenti rimanderei.

Troverai sempre gente ma considera che in 44/47 km si diluisce molto. Forse il sabato visto gli eventuali cambi dei turisti negli alloggi
