In fact, today only the northern elevation is visible in its military features fifteenth/sixteenth century (although restored in the early years of the eighteenth century), while the southern and eastern side is no longer visible because another building was supported there, the nineteenth-century Palazzo Palmieri; just as certainly next and unrelated to the castle is the loggia with shops along the western side, on Corso Garibaldi, which shows just part of the southwest corner tower. In any case, it remains one of the main monuments of Vasto: its northern side, overlooking Piazza dei Barbacani, despite the antennas is certainly scenic, with its corner towers, the band of hanging arches that runs along the entire prospectus, the moat, the high inner tower with the dome above. Built by the Sienese architect Mariano di Jacopo, the Caldoresco Castle is located in the historic center of Vasto on a promontory overlooking the coast. Wanted in the fifteenth century by Giacomo Caldora, feudal lord and lord of Vasto, it was built on the basis of a pre-existing fortress and had the role of defensive structure. At the end of the fifteenth century there were restorations with a strengthening of the city walls and the construction of large almond sticks, which can still be admired.

This imposing castle is linked to military events (three-month siege against the forces of Ferdinand of Aragon...) and its structure had many renovations (it once had three pentagonal bastions, one circular and three internal towers). It was a defensive work commissioned by the captain of fortune Giacomo Caldora who was succeeded by his son and only after came the Marquisate of D'Avalos who transformed it into a castle. I've only seen it on the outside, the slits for the colubriniums are distinguishable and , below the gunships.

this castle can only be admired from the outside, overlooking a square with a splendid fountain, it is located behind Piazza Rossetti, in the evening with the lights it makes an even more beautiful effect

The Castle is located on a promontory overlooking the coast.
It consists of bastions at the corners. The original part dates back to the 14th-15th century with transformations carried out in 1439 by Giacomo Caldora perhaps in the external part. In the 15th century the previous palace was transformed into a castle by the d'Avalos. Other transformations were made by Cesare Michelangelo d'Avalos in the 18th century.

Di questo imponente castello - fortezza, si possono solo ammirare le mura esterne.

Purtroppo di questo castello edificato su una struttura preesistente nel 1439 da Giacomo Caldora, una volta divenuto marchese del Vasto, resta solo la facciata, che comunque fa immaginare la bellezza e l'importanza che la fortezza ha avuto in passato. Merita una visita ed una foto!

Il castello sorge al centro della Città e conserva tutta la sua imponenza ma versa in un grave stato di degrado. I resti del ponte levatoio, bel visibile, in estate è sommerso dai tavolini dei locali commerciali, sui tetti sono ben visibili i "ruderi" coperti di ruggine di vecchie antenne Tv. Le mura necessitano di un piano di restauro notevole.

Potrebbe essere tra i primissimi motivi per un turista, per venire a Vasto e invece...si sa ormai che è proprietà di privati, e tali privati tengono talmente alla struttura (è una battuta) che la lasciano cpn le gronsaie arrugginite, vetri rotti e antenne attaccate alle torri circolari, e soprattutto non esistono fotografie degli interni, sempre per motivi di privacy. Il castello è uno dei meglio conservati d'Abruzzo, quanto a costruzioni di città, al pari del forte spagnolo a L'Aquila. Ma quanto pare al proprietario, che mi sembra non ci abiti nemneno, non frega na mazza, è roba di prioprietà sua e ci fa quello che vuole. Io ho paura, perché secondo me vorrebbe anche vendere il castello alla Regione al Comune, chissà, perché immaginate che botta d'ICI al mese, ma chissà quanto chiede per l'acquisto. E la mia paura sta che questo bellissimo maniero vivrà nell'abbandono , collasserà tra l'indifferenza di tutti, finché non dovranno espropriarlo. È semplicemente SCANDALOSO, ma contenti tutti, accontentiamoci di vederlo da fuori, tra un cocktail e un altro. Ecco perché l'Abruzzo turisticamente parlando è piccolo piccolo.
