Tuesday afternoon 12th May and we passed by this eye catching Elizabethan gatehouse, which is situated along Shute Road.
The building is reminiscent of a miniature castle, with its turrets and crenelations.
It guards the entrance to remaining buildings of the Tudor Manor of Shute Barton.
It estimated that the Gatehouse was built around 1560.
The Gatehouse and Shute Barton are administered by the National Trust and the accommodations are rented out. They are open to the public on certain days during the year.

Spent a lovely xmas week here. Accomodation is above the gateway and there is another bunk bedroom in one of the turrets. There is reserved parking at the rear. Its very comfortable and warm and well worth checking out the Landmark Trust that rent this and other one hundred other historical buildings.
