Ricostruita nell’arco di due secoli tra l’inizio del Cinquecento e la fine del Seicento, nel luogo in cui sorgeva un’antica abbazia, la cattedrale è il principale edificio religioso di Sarlat e sorge in pieno centro storico. Lo stile architettonico predominante è il gotico, la veduta esterna è abbastanza suggestiva, mentre l’interno, sebbene piuttosto sobrio, presenta una notevole quantità di elementi decorativi in legno che meritano attenzione. Non è imperdibile ma vale comunque una visita. Ingresso libero.

We entered this cathedral at the time of Sunday Mass.

Nice peaceful cathedral. Quite impressive given the size of the town and definitely worth a visit if you are in the town.

My wife and I visited this gorgeous cathedral a few times during our vacation to Sarlat-le-Canada. The first couple of times were to take photos and enjoy its aura. We returned for Sunday Mass and enjoyed it even more. It was great to see the Saint-Sacerdos Cathedral packed with young and old. My wife and I left inspired and refreshed inside and out.

The city cathedral is named after the saint, whose relics were lost during the Huguenot wars. The current cathedral began to be built on the site of the Romanesque in 1504. For a long time, an apse and a bell tower left over from the old cathedral were erected near the cathedral. The cathedral was completed only at the end of the XVII century under Louis XIV. Although the Renaissance style had already begun to form in neighboring Italy at the time of construction, by the time the construction was completed, the Baroque in Sarlat remained faithful to the Gothic.

Located in the city center of Sarlat, the Saint - Sacerdos Cathedral does not go unnoticed in the city, in particular by its presence due to an imposing architectural mass.
The interior of the building is not to be outdone on the surface, particularly with a significant height under the ceiling.
Inside the cathedral, many works of religious art are on display.

Very beautiful cathedral in the old town of Sarlat. You have to start going around it to fully appreciate it and then enter it. It is relatively sober but has very beautiful stained glass windows.

Beautiful Architecture. Positioned well in a beautiful square. Excellent craftsmanship with finished detail. Plenty of light. Unpretentious. Low hymn music in backround is a nice touch (but it's too low and should be louder).

Belle cathédrale située en plein centre ville, et étrangement ouverte la nuit !
Son histoire est liée aux moines, et a été édifiée sur les fondations de l'église romane de l'abbaye fondée au IXème siècle.
Superbe orgue du XVIIIème siècle, classé monument historique en 1952.
