Visiting this remarkably well-preserved mansion allows you to re-enter what was the life of an era and its modes of operation.

The Manoir de Gisson is a three-story noble palace located in the heart of the historic center of Sarlat, with entrance from the picturesque square with the statue of the three geese. The visit winds through about twenty rooms, all richly furnished, and the various floors are connected by a scenic scalar tower. In the cellars has been created the cabinet of curiosities, an exhibition of extravagant objects from all over the world, but that I personally think the least interesting part of the visit. At the entrance a paper guide is provided, in the desired language, which is very useful in understanding what is seen inside the house museum. Very interesting visit, for those who want to deepen their knowledge of this beautiful town.

Very interesting visit!
The mansion is fully furnished and even if you notice anachronism in the different rooms, this building is worth a visit

It was raining in buckets and as we were visiting the old town we entered this Perigord house. The visit proved to be very interesting and informative.
The house is all furnished and we have an Audio Guide that gives us clear explanations.

bcp loved this mansion turned out to be full of surprises. Throughout this visit, we went through different rooms super well furnished and arranged by models that make them almost alive and very friendly

In addition to the quality of the building, pay
20 euros to visit a flea market is a scam. Most of the furniture dates from the 19th century when it is not copies. The comments have no historical rigour.

This medieval mansion has been set up to show a typical interior from medieval times until the 1800s. Where is the visit, including the small curiosity museum in the basement.

If you are interested in history, this is an absolute must-see. (If you aren't interested in history, what are you doing in Sarlat?)
Sarlat is ancient, but has few visible, visitable "landmarks." This is one of the few. It is near the main square, near the statue of the geese. A four story (counting the basement) 13th century home of a wealthy official - one of the four "consuls" who governed the town. A wealthy man and the house shows is.
Not large by modern standards, it is fascinating just for its structure, stairways, passages and layout. But what really makes it special are the splendid period furnishings, prints, paintings, curtains, books, lighting and fabrics. It really is like you are visiting in a home from the 1200s. And, throughout, there are mannequins dressed in period costumes. And none of it is roped off. You move around the house as if a guest.
In the basement are a fantastically varied "curiousities" - articles (from weird fish to weaponst o shells to shrunken heads - collected from all over the world.
You move at your own pace, aided by so-so English explanation cards. But the house and its contents really speak for themselves. We toured the house in early June and it was not at all crowded. At peak tourist season that probably would not be the case and the rooms certainly could get a bit cramped.
A really worthwhile hour to immerse yourself in life 800 years ago.

This visit is worth the trip if you are spending your stay in Sarlat. The purchase of the ticket purchased at the OT can be combined with the historical visit to the city.

I took away one star because the owner was having a job interview with personal questions in the dining room we were visiting... I found that completely inappropriate
