The hostess who received us was hardly kind nor polite, really unpleasant welcome for a tourist office
Even if Sarlat is a very touristic place, the least we can do is to kindly welcome tourists and to inform them well; I do not generalize, this review concerns the young woman who answered us

We were here several times and were always served by different staff members friendly, patient and competent.
The opening hours without a break from 9am to 7pm are just as good (as have often been the case in other places in France due to a longer lunch break). Each employee we met also spoke at least one foreign language - the languages they each speak are marked.
In the office there is also a decent selection of souvenir items / souvenirs.
There is a recommended city tour as a QR code with access to a website that brings the city closer in about 25 stations. This is more detailed (and different) than the brochure with the city tour (50 Cent). The brochure is limited to the most necessary information. Audio guide and brochure are available in many languages and also in German.

Friendly welcome, competent staff and guided group tour (€8/pers. -19 people) where you learn about the buildings and history.
- From 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on a Saturday morning (market day...) nice for the atmosphere!
We stayed for 9 nights right on the edge of the historic center so no parking problem (the free one to the right of the public garden).
- This walk takes us to the eastern part of the medieval district, its streets and old buildings including the St-Sacerdos cathedral and its cemetery and the strange Lanterne des Morts, the house of Etienne de La Boétie (1530/1563), friend by Montaigne. Various squares and fountains and the Ste Marie Church converted into a covered market with a monumental steel door (architect Jean Nouvel).
To advice.

The Sarlat Périgord Noir Tourist Office is vast, and fortunately, because many tourists come every day to question the friendly tourism professionals who are the people at the reception of this Office, a temple to the discovery of Périgord.
And of course, we were very well informed by a young woman with an unfeigned smile, who did not hesitate to use her precious time to help us discover the city and its surroundings with lots of documentation and personalization of her words according to our requests. .

The beauty of the city was really spoiled by unrelated and crude Christmas decorations (huge and polluting teddy bears made and recycled). Holly or any other branch would have done the trick. Too many blue/white LED string lights (funny choice here where the stone is gold) break up the perspectives and the unique atmosphere of Sarlat. A waste of contemporaries on the excellences of the ancients to whom you owe your notoriety. For the rest, Sarlat is a town with a calm and pleasant atmosphere, where the know-how is real and the welcome is warm. The market is a reflection of local gastronomy: a fireworks display of flavors and smells.

Sarlat is an essential town in Périgord. I recommend the night tour but the daytime city tour is also very nice.
Consider coming on market day but be careful parking spaces are rare.

Good central location, upbeat friendly staff.
One concern….they might want to check the public toilets next door, you know, the ones for Visitors?
Horrible! No toilet seats, no toilet paper, and stinky. Yuck. With so many visitors, especially parents with children,
You’d think the town could provide better. Yes, three blocks to the SE is a very nice pay facility. But please, this is such a basic need for visitors to your (otherwise) lovely town.

There isn't any shuttle from Brive airport to Sarlat...
You can :
- take a taxi directly to Sarlat,
- or take a shuttle to the station, then a train to Souillac and a bus to Sarlat...

The 3 main supermarkets will be open :
- Carrefour supermarket will be open on Sunday from 9 am to 12.30 an on Monday from 9 am to 1 pm
- E. Leclerc supermarket will be open on Sunday from 8.30 am to 12.30 an but it will be closed on Monday
- Casino supermarket wille be open on Sunday from 9 am to 12.30 an on Monday from 8 am to 7 pm

You can book tickets online for Lascaux and it could be better. For Font de Gaume you can try to book by phone or email. If you can not book, you can buy tickets at the opening each morning, except Saturday.
