It takes a lot of hard work and research to put these trips together and Rod goes above and beyond to make your day memorable.
I was on this trip to research my father and my uncle's movements in the first world war and Rod came up trumps. Which made my day very emotional and memorable. Thanks to Rod now I have an insight to what my father and uncle went through on the Somme. If ever I need to come back I will definitely do another trip with him.
Maybe just a polite bit of advice don't forget to tip after all he drives all that way, He's very knowledgeable of everything and you will always come back knowing more about your relatives then you did.

I was met at the railway station and offered a choice of either the Somme tour or Ieper as I had been on the Belgian tour I chose the Somme with Jackie and a lovely couple from Canada . We saw the CWGC at work near Arras (very interesting) before a great Somme tour the sights especially Thiepval were quite simply unforgettable the tour guide was brilliant after a really pleasant lunch which she provided we then made our way to Vimy Ridge which was probably the highlight of the day on our way back we saw a huge French cemetery and the final resting place of thousands of brave Germans. After dropping our Canadian friends back at the station Jackie was good enough to run me to the Arras memorial which I wanted to visit but don’t think I would have found on my own a really interesting experience bringing an end to a really unforgettable day any time you are in the area I would thoroughly recommend using this company I can personally say you will not be disappointed thanks once again you can rest assured I will never forget the day .

Did the Somme Offensive Tour organised by Ledger. The Trip, Drivers and Tour Guide were outstanding. The Guide incorporated my and the need of others outside of the itenery which is such a lovely thing to do showing that they cared. The Guide Gary was so knowledgeable and passionate. The Drivers Paul and Paul very proffesional funny and accommodation. Well done and Thank you.

Thank you for your review- however Ledger are a coach tour operator, we operate much smaller, more personal groups that entail us to personalise the tours to suit the individual. I am glad you enjoyed your day but you have posted this on the wrong listing.

Rod Bedford was the perfect host for this tour He tailored the tour for us and coupled with his expertise, knowledge and experience he provided an unforgettable day. We were humbled by the experience but have no regrets about it. Will be recommending Rod to all Matt and Michele

thank you for your review-although the tour has a standard itinerary we will wherever possible tweak things to make sure everyone gets the most out of their time with us. The most importatnt thing for us is to pass on the torch of rememberance to the next generation.

What an incredible day of learning. As Canadians, we were eager to visit the Vimy Memorial, but we ended up developing a much deeper appreciation for Arras the larger historical impact of the events in April 1917.

What a fantastic day spent with Rod touring the major Somme Battlefields. His knowledge and explanations were excellent and gave another level of understanding. Could not recommend him highly enough.

I've always had an interest in WW1 as my grandad was injured, but survived, on the Somme. Rod provided a fascinating tour which was packed with information on the events. Included in the tour were visits to museums, battle sites, memorials and, poignantly, cemeteries. Rod gave us plenty time to reflect on these visits. I would recommend this tour to people of all ages. Those who participated in the battles must never be forgotten.

Another fantastic trip back to a grim itime n our history everyone so helpful tour guide Jackie was so knowledgeable nothing to much trouble I would recommend it to anyone interested in history

Rod was one of the most knowledgeable guides I’ve ever had the pleasure of going on a tour with. As a retired British military serviceman, he was able to give us a special level of insight into the tactics used by both sides in WW1. He also had such a depth of knowledge about the events that took place around the battles. Me and my group thought of ourselves history buffs, but it turns out we knew very little compared to him. Along with his professionalism and keen mind, he was an absolute delight to spend time with. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking to get thoroughly into the details of the western front.

Hi,
I am very interested in retracing my great uncles footsteps who died in the battle of Dernancourt on 4th April 1918.
Our family is traveling around Europe from March until Aug and we will be staying in Oignies between 5-8th April so we can visit sites and remember our diggers
Do you offer tailored tours where we might be able to visit specific sites where he fought, died and is buried. If you do not, could you please recommend a somebody who might.
His name was Timothy Donovan 46th battalion 12 Brigade. 4th Division. Fought at Bullecourt (11th April 1917), Passendale(Approx Oct/Nov 1917) & Dernancourt (died 4th April 1918).
Buried at Millencourt.

Dear Pam, my apologies, I have just answered your e mail and then realised you requested a private tour, we can offer a private tour, as per the itineraries I sent but of course they are flexible so we can include Peronne for you, the cost for our Private tour is 600€ for the Somme area (8th October) and 760€ for the Ypres tour (9th October, includes the Menin gate). Museum entry fees included but no lunch. I suggest you stay at Ypres on the 9th and travel on from there- we could collect you from Amiens in the morning and you could stay overnight in Amiens or Arras, you would need to stay in Arras or Ypres after the Ypres tour as it is too far to return to Amiens afetr the Menin Gate service which takes place at 2000hrs. Hope that is all clear!!
