We could visit the cloister. It's beautiful.

We visited the cathedral when visiting Sainte during the music and arts festival. It’s a lovely example and we were fortunate to drop in when there was a recital being held. Well worth a visit, even if it is to get out the midday sun for a while and cool off

Built on a site where places of worship have followed one another since the 6th century, this cathedral was built in the 15th century. The portal is magnificent and the interior is also rich in chapels, sculptures, various furniture and stained glass windows. A flamboyant Gothic building partly destroyed during the wars of religion, it was restored, the bell tower covered with a dome never received its spire. A cloister is sometimes accessible.

n'hésitez pas à pousser le portail pour entrer dans cet édifice religieux qui vous accueille avec sérénité et grand plaisir pour vous informer de son histoire. Toutes les chapelles collatérales sont expliquées, prenez le temps de lire les renseignements fournis.
vous admirerez aussi le "cymborium" avec ses quatre colonnes récupérés auprès de l'Abbaye aux dames. Jamais achevée si on se fie au clocher.

Tower above Saintes right in the middle of the town by the marked square. Alway interesting to see Cathedrals in France and it is free.

Magnifique et grande Cathédrale située dans le joli quartier St Pierre et qui fait partie des points de visite incontournables de Saintes. Ne pas oublier le petit jardin médiéval juste à côté.

Intéressante cathédrale par son architecture bigarrée et son porche d'accès sculpté. Visite relativement rapide, quelques éléments anciens d'une belle facture, quelques éléments modernes plus étranges mais tout aussi originaux ...

This is a must visit if your in Saintes as it’s an iconic building and towers over the city.
The inside is enormous and whilst quite plain, outside it a really mish mash of stages of building works over the centuries.
We visited on a hot summers day so it was the ideal refuge to get out the heat.
We also took a picnic which we ate in the cloisters which is just to the right of the main door.
