Memories of the past are whispering to me:"Go back to the farm."The tide of flashbacks is setting in now-the drift back to the old familiar place as we planned our road trip to a farm in the oldest Kapampangan town.
"Prado Farms started out as a private rest house for owner Reimon Gutierrez's family and a venue for workshops, formative retreats, and food festivals. It was later opened to the public in 2013 to accommodate guests who want to experience living in a farm and learn about biodynamic farming."We reached to our destination four hours before our check-in time so that would mean ample time to laze around and unlax at the restaurant, find something to buy at the curio shop for Mother's Day plus a good deal of time to photo shoot before our walk tour begins.
"The entrance to the farm gives you a hint to its history-rusty gas tanks welded together to form a massive, almost sculptural gate.Beyond it,a riot of bougainvilla flowers that have made their way up to the trees.Inside are more bougainvilla flowers above a small pond, which play a lovely contrast to the blue color of the first house.A short distance away is the theater room-a red building made out of salvaged parts of an old train station(there's even a 'ticketing area')furnished with a small stage and lots of seating for events.Beside it is the library painted in pale yellow with a winding staircase, shelves filled with vintage books, and stained glass art.All these buildings served as venues for the Waldorf-style community school at one time, which Reimon supports as an educator.Interspersed with these structures are tall tress with hanging accents-bright acrylic art pieces by Impy Pilapil.A closer look at the furnishings around the farm will reveal that they are made with upcycled materials:old refrigerator wirings turned into door screens, water closets used as planters, old capiz windows used as panels,LPG gas tanks as small creatures and catch-on features--all add to its distinct character."(Going Places,March 2017)
At 1pm,we were allowed to get in our B&B room.We booked for a De-Luxe room with a balcony and an attic. After a lunch meal, the next activity took place in the infinity pool area and conquering the rest of the farm by bicycle. There's also a space for kids to take a nap and an area for old games to make them busy.
"Mornings at Prado Farms mean waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying a cup of Kalinga brew or mint tea served from a vintage thermos(which can conjure the memories of summers spent at one's grandparents). These go perfectly with some masa padrida or Nancy Balls, sourced from a homegrown bakery in Guagua."Our morning started by enjoying the farm in our own pace while wandering at its charm,laid-back atmosphere. We continued with some more legwork before meeting for breakfast at the Mangan Yaman Pavilion(Dining Hall)-the most fitting place to celebrate Mother's Day.
Beside the Bed-and-Breakfast is a chapel where one can linger for some meditation.Serenity was there and we embraced it."The highlight of the experience was relaxing at the farm house where you can take in the view of earth and sky, only delightfully interrupted by the resident cow, carabao,or egrets flying gracefully. The best part of it all is being able to take your shoes off and putting your feet up-with a book,a guitar,or a cup of coffee in hand."Our winding up activity was a 'cariton'ride by the carabao named Malago.Bought a harvest of lettuce, arugula and 'alugbati' to bring on our way back.
For Architect Reimon Gutierrez,PRADO FARM is more than just a farm--it is a haven that offers respite and fuels the imagination.

My childhood BFFs and I spent the night on a weekday and had the farm/resort all to ourselves. The infinity pool was awesome and relaxing. We enjoyed the Carabao ride and farm tour and had a wonderful time with our tour guide taking lots of photos of us as the place was beautiful and we even had a chance to go biking just like when we were kids! We just wished the food tasted better and fresher since we were in a farm and expected more but overall our stay was simply fantastic!

We’ve been planning to visit Prado Farms for a long time but we always ended up changing plans for some reasons. I’m so glad that we finally did over the long weekend.
Pros (+)
- The customer service is top-notch. There was a little mix-up upon checking-in as the receptionists failed to locate our reservation but they managed to squeeze us in anyway. Some staff are timid to greet guests but generally, people are warm & welcoming especially the folks assigned in the restaurants— and of course, the ever bubbly, Bella, their PR Officer.
- Their organic food is heavenly! Too bad, they’re not for sale. (at least the items that I really liked)
- Every corner, as expected is IG-worthy. A holy grail for photographers & photographer wannabes.
- Value for money.
- Serenity of the place. How about waking up with all the birds/ geckoes chirping in the trees?
- Kids (and kids at heart) would surely love the infinity pool facing the farm; not to mention the bicycles if you’re not fond of walking around.
Cons (-)
- Innovation would help. The place is already an exciting place to visit— I just hope they maximize the space.
- I can’t imagine how the millennials would spend an entire day without stable reception/ reliable wifi, tvs inside the room (but I see how this idea can excite those who are longing to spend quality time with loved ones)

We took a day trip package that included a tour of the farm, lunch and snacks as well as some free time to enjoy the stillness of the place. It is also a good place to hide out as they have lodging facilities. The farm is still working its way to standardise the services and amenities but this place is definitely worth a visit. What I would suggest is a proper chef to maximise on the fresh produce and come up with menu ( food is whatever is available at the time ) that has a good mix in terms of taste and combination.
