A must see while in the Bay

Fantastic place to visit for old & young alike. It’s like the TARDIS - bigger than it looks from the outside! We are locals who have been plenty of times but there is always more you haven’t seen or noticed each time you go. Could spend all day wandering! Highly recommend.

Open air museum - very surprising

Had no idea the museum existed until we came across it on Australia Day - what a surprise! It's an open air museum and contained a lot of old buildings including a church, farming equipment and cut-outs of farm animals. Great place for the kids.

Hervey Bay’s Hidden Treasure

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Hervey Bay Historical Village & Museum. The many items on display were beautifully presented in a neat and orderly manner with lots of interesting information included. We didn’t realise how big the museum actually was until we entered the grounds which were immaculately kept. It is a credit to the volunteers and all involved in the running of this museum. When in Hervey Bay, a visit to this museum is simply a must!

Don't miss this museum in Hervey Bay!

Visiting a local museum is always on our to do list when travelling. This one is up there with the best!
Looks small from the front which might make some question paying the $10 entry fee, but don't be concerned. It's surprisingly large! We moved through the exhibits and village reasonably quickly, and it took us 90 minutes. Wish we more time available to take it slower.
There is a blacksmith demonstration daily 1-3pm. Unfortunately we didn't have time available to stay for that, but they have a video of the demonstration looping on a screen in the blacksmith area, so we didn't miss out.
The staff at Hervey Bay Museum are lovely and knowledgeable. As we always find in these small town museums, there are people on duty who are passionate about the history of their beloved home and are happy to sit and chat about anything and everything to do with their town.
Highly recommend putting this museum on your list of things to do when you visit Hervey Bay. It's a gem!

A Real Gem

I spent a really enjoyable couple of hours wandering around this really interesting place. There is a huge variety of displays from farm machinery, telephones, printing, clothing and family life etc which are all extremely well presented and annotated. I was lucky to see live demonstrations of rope making and blacksmithing. Both gentleman were very knowledgeable and skilled. The 1898 slab house is a real gem.
Special thanks to all the lovely volunteers who make this place happen.

What a surprise package! Although it looks small from the road, this museum houses a great selection of historical memorabilia. Everything was so well maintained and thoughtfully set out in manicured surroundings. You must visit!

A must do!

A beautiful collection of historical items, set out in different themed buildings which make such an amazing experience! Saw two demonstrations, one with blacksmiths and another we were able to make our own rope! Definitely take 2 hours to go around, so much to see and do, the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable too, a must do!

Surprisingly fun

Rainy day so decided to go here based on other reviews and was not disappointed. Much bigger than it looks from the outside . Watched horseshoes being made in a furnace and had a ride on a tractor amongst other things. Staff were all volunteers and lovely. Don’t go expecting its Movie world and then you’ll enjoy the experience.
