A great experience and a comfortable way onto the mountain.
We would recommend to take the first train of the day, then you have plenty room to look out, take photos and go onto the outside platform to get the best experience. The only drawback is the high cost of the ticket. The online booking side needs improvement, as PayPal payment didn't work and after paying by credit card, it took more than a hour that the tickets were delivered. Good point : the telephone Hotline was well available even at 9 p.m.

Way overpriced, No service, No english (not even the staff)
Pay 55 euro pr person and we didnt manged too get a seat out or back bacuse the staff didnt undestand too help and People where over selfish, and didnt want too move.
It Washington a lang wride too stand, when yoy have handicaped People With you.
Not That great view as written. Mostly Just dead forrest. Not Even a Bird.

Prior to booking our trip from Wernigerode Station to Brocken, we did some extensive research on the Trains, so when we went along to buy our tickets a day in advance, we hoped it would be an easy experience. But it wasn’t to be our lucky day as the 2 discount vouchers we had been given weren’t recognised or valid!!!
So at 55 Euro each, it’s quite an expensive outing.
As to the rail journey, it was 1 hour 45 minutes each way with a 40 minute stopover at Brocken where facilities, were well, “limited”.
There were however, many opportunities to take some great photos from both inside the coaches, and whilst out on the viewing platforms where the smell of burning coal smoke from the pulling engine added to the experience. Some of the countryside views were also spectacular.
Yes I would recommend it to friends, but hope the Operators of the attraction give thought to making regular future tannoy announcements in languages other than German … just a simple suggestion that would be appreciated by future visitors from outside Germany.

Obviously the easy way to the top. Steam buffs will get a kick out of the locomotive & makes for a quaint journey. The view from the top was clear & fantastic, no sure that's always the case. The fact the Russians were sitting up there 30 years is a bit creepy. There is a nice nature walk around the summit with information signs. Need Google Translate.

We walked up to the Brocken from Torfhaus. It was a nice path, especially not overcrowded, maybe it was the weather, it was a bit windy that day.
On the way, nature made its presence known, so I waited until I reached the top. Once at the top, there was a public toilet for 1 euro, only a pass, no card payment possible, OK, I kept going. Then to the ticket counter, 74 euros for 2 people, one trip down.
And the good woman who sold us the tickets was not in the mood at all. I am a nice and kind guy and I had a good upbringing, it only shapes you for the next time you are treated strangely. Someone who works there can earn their money there because customers want to buy something.
And there too, with those prices, there was no toilet on site. Only in the restaurant around the corner, there was a 1 euro fee there too. The journey took about 35 minutes for two stops. Seats like in a children's train, everything rattled.
No joke, for 98 euros the two of us can travel all over Germany for a month, and they charge 74 euros for one trip.

The woman who sells the tickets for the steam train to the Brocken is extremely rude and doesn’t appear to like Americans. She was rude when we purchased our tickets and we were treated very poorly after our train was cancelled due to fire on the Brocken. All passengers were told we were entitled to a refund but she refused to give us one until another customer came to get his refund and was willing to translate for us as well. We had tried using Google translate but she still would not give us our refund.

The trip on the Brockenbahn is recommended, but the price-performance ratio for the trip from Schierke is overpriced. I can't understand why I have to pay the same amount up there as if I were traveling from Nordhausen or Wernigerode. Here on Rügen you only pay from the train station to your destination and you can also use the tourist tax. It really dampened my mood for this trip. What a pity 😢

At €55 per person, it's not even remotely adequate value for money. Only for fans of steam locomotives, but you don't need a ticket for that. It starts with an unpaved parking lot with no markings, people park wildly. Only one of the parking machines is in operation, the first queue. So long that passengers decide to take the next train and not to buy a parking ticket.
Platforms packed, a third train spotters. Two trains are about to depart, but it's not clear which one is going where and when. Wild boarding and alighting with uncoordinated train changes.
And if you'd known about the delay beforehand, you'd still have got the parking ticket. There were no announcements on the platform, and it was incomprehensible in the train compartment.
The return journey was also delayed without any comment.
And if you think that the Brocken destination even comes close to making up for it, you're wrong. It's completely incomprehensible why so many visitors strive to come here.

Day trip on a steam train on the Brocken line up the Hartz mountain.
Our journey started at Wernigerode station through the town and up the sides of valleys and mountain to the summit in the Hartz National park. Originally the journey would have been through green forests giving magnificent views but now there is devastation of the forest Spruce trees by a beetle which has killed most of the trees. Now looks like a war zone!.
Our train reaches the windy summit with excellent views unless the cloud comes down.
Our train journey down was by steam to Drei Annen Hohne were we changed trains down to Wernigerode.

The price for the train remains the same no matter which station you get on board. Ample parking can be found in Drei Annen Hohne.

they are open all year. But if the weather is very bad they close the roads and also the train does not go. Let your hotel check before.
From the museum:
"Guided tours in English may also be booked in advance and we are really looking forward to welcome our international guests. Please be advised that it may be useful to book guided tours in advance, because some dates may be booked earlier than others."
