Historisch sicher wichtig in der Stadtgeschichte, fand ich das Tor und den angrenzenden Bereich nicht besonders ansprechend und relativ ungepflegt, an einer Hauptverkehrsstrasse gelegen.
Viel Lärm, wenig Menschen....scheint kein Besucher Magnet zu sein.
Irgendwie fühle ich mich hier nicht so richtig sicher....also lieber schnell weg hier.

Schöne restaurierte Stadtanlage

Ein schöner Ort zum verweilen und entspannen. Hier wurde vieles renoviert und modernisiert. Wer nur einen Tag Zeit hat sollte hier definitiv vorbei schauen.

Das Deutsche Tor in den Kasematten

Das Deutsche Tor verbindet die Innenstadt mit den Verteidigungsanlagen und der alten Schleuse und dem Stadtpark. Die neben dem deutschen Tor stehende Kanone ist ein Überbleibsel aus längst vergangener Zeit.

Saarlouis, die Stadt des Sonnenkönigs

Auf unserem Stadtrundgang, vorbei an den Kasematten, auf dem Weg zur Schleusenbrücke und in den Stadtgarten, führte uns der Stadtplan "Rendezvous Saarlouis" mit seinen Sehenswürdigkeiten, die "ein Muss" sind, zum "Deutschen Tor". Pfeile aus Messingknöpfen (?) im Boden führten uns zu Wappen und Königskrone an der Innenseite des Tores. Sehr beeindruckend!

A nice place to wander around with children

2018年11月

The gate, along with the entire fortress nearby, is a nice place for a Sunday afternoon stroll with children. The area is under renovation and is being partially turned turned into a modern park, which in the context is Saarlouis makes sense. All the cafés and shops appeared to be closed, which we found a pity but reality in Germany. The fortress itself remains untouched and had a great eerie feeling.

Nice reminder of Saarlouis history

The German Gate which used to stay at this place was demolished in 1886 due to increased traffic in the city and never rebuilt. During the reconstruction of casemates in 1970th gateways for pedestrians were created at both sides of the road. This construction reminds the former gate and divide the Saarlouis downtown from busy Anton Merziger Ring. At both sides stand original cannons from German-French War and at the downtown faced side of the gate you can find Prussian coat of arms and the Crown.
I personally liked this place very much and truly recommend a visit which you can combine with a lunch or a dinner in one of the restaurants located in former casemates.
