This is a pretty late review since we had an overnight stay at Hijo Resorts/Banana Beach on July 30, 2019. It was my sister's wedding so some party decided to book a few rooms in advance to rest after the event. Since the premium rooms were all fully booked on that date, we opted for the casitas - booked 3 rooms. The room was decent, it has 2 double-sized mattresses placed on the slightly elevated wooden floor and has its own bathroom. What disappointed us were the following:
1. The room smells of an old house but that's understandable because it's made of wood. There were some dead insects in the bathroom.
2. The blankets provided were thick fleece blankets that are really uncomfortable to use. My uncle requested for a 'normal' blanket because the fleece blanket triggered his allergy only to find out that they charge extra, about P100-200, for a 'normal' blanket. They eventually provided one for free due to health reasons. As for us, we continued sleeping using the same blanket since we don't want to pay extra.
3. MOSQUITOS! MOSQUITOS! MOSQUITOS! Alright, since we booked the casita, we thought that it already includes the mosquito net as per the advertised photos. Uh oh! No, it's not provided and requesting for one will incur another P150, or was it P200? Hmm. Anyways, I was taken aback when I was informed about this. But not to worry, Ma'am, Sir, they have complimentary Off lotions which was not placed in your individual rooms. They keep it at that restaurant near the casitas. So if I didn't ask for the mosquito net, we wouldn't have had the repellent and we just settled for that.
This review is for their casitas only. Their premium rooms might have given us a better experience only if those were not fully-booked. Nonetheless, since they are charging more than the average amount for their casitas, they could've provided much better amenities and ensured that the rooms were tidy before allowing customers to enter.

We arrived at about 10:30 a.m. on a beautiful Monday. After registering and reviewing activity options, we proceeded to the pool. The pool is big and visually appealing. Trust me when I say that if you are there on a typically-hot southern Philippine day, the pool looks extremely inviting. There are plenty of tables and upright chairs around the pool, but not enough beach chairs for lounging. We brought our own towels, so I am not sure if the resort provides them. There is plenty of natural shade, and there are clean bathrooms nearby. The food and drink options were fine, and the prices were reasonable given the circumstances. Due to heavy winds, the beach was closed for swimming, but we were able to take a nice walk along it. The sand was dark.
At about 1:30 p.m. we took a tour of the property. A nice member of the staff drove us around in an open-air vehicle. We went through a jungle path that was teeming with monkeys, boar, and monitor lizards. At the end of the path was a series of 9 hanging bridges, which are wooden plank pathways high up in the trees. It was a lot of fun being able to take such a long walk on the bridges. The view from up there was fantastic - a true trip into the Philippine jungle. At the end of the bridge section, there is a shooting range. For something like one thousand pesos, you can fire 50 bullets at a bunch of targets. I recommend that you get into the local spirit and go for it. It isn’t every day that you can swim in such a nice pool, view exotic wildlife, walk amongst the tops of the trees on hanging bridges, and fire some weapons!
Since it was just a day trip, we did not look at any of the overnight accommodations. If you are looking for a relaxing day trip away from the city, this resort is a good option.

The area has the black sand beach, which I quite like, great hotel and pool, food was really good, I think the rooms were picture perfect, with the round shape and the thatched roof they really looked impressive. We (couple) spent a relaxing long weekend here, just kicking back and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

Ni regardez pas pas deux fois. Passez votre chemin. De l’argent perdu et beaucoup pour un occidental, pour un philippin il faudrait un mois de salaire pour venir passer la journée. Donc ok on pourrait s’attendre à mieux. On avait la promesse d’un all inclusive pour passer la journée. Nous étions 6 personnes et nous avions loué une casita en plus pour la journée. Le repas en self était pas trop mal. Mais une demi-heure après le début du service il manquait encore des plats. Pour les boissons à volonté on a eu droit à des cocas sûrement depuis plusieurs jours dans les verres : aucune bulle. Puis nous sommes allés à notre casita. Les vestiaires sont très sales le linge de la casita aussi. Nous nous reposons un peu puis direction la piscine. Le cadre est assez joli bien que la plage soit très loin, très sale. Une barge est ancrée à côté bref ça ne donne pas envie. Ne cherchez pas de serviette propre : seulement des tas de linge sale. Et il parait que c’est encore un supplément !La meilleure de la journée : lorsque nous sommes rentrés à notre casita elle avait été relouée à une famille de chinois ! Et pas question pour eux de bouger : ils avaient réservé. On nous en a alors proposé une autre, ce n’était pas bien grave mais celle-ci était tellement sale et à l’état d’abandon au bout du parking que nous avons décidé d’arrêter là notre expérience ! Et il a fallu reprendre la voie d’accès : un chantier en jachère ! La famille de ma femme habitant à côté il y avait normalement un tarif préférentiel pour les locaux, il figure sur leur site mais il a disparu. Alors les seules choses qui me ferait plaisir : des excuses et un remboursement.

Family took us here to swim and for lunch while we were visit. The food was great, an all you can eat Buffet. And I enjoy the food and over ate. But it was worth it..

Place: Great
We stayed overnight (Friday-Saturday) but the place was not crowded at all!
Accomodation:
The Premium Casita is really nice; big bed with a couch that is also a makeshift bed plus a pull-out. The bathroom is big (and super clean).
Food: Awesome
One thing I really appreciate in this resort is the quality of food they serve. Though the dishes are not extraordinary, the management made sure you get really GOOD food. Price? Affordable! (I highly recommend the Beef Salpicao!)
Bar:
Open 24/7 *wink*
Staff:
The friendliest staff I've encountered! Every single person in the resort is really courteous.
Overall: The place really did not disappoint. Worth the 4-hour trip! (Gensan to Tagum)

It was my first time to visit Tagum City, and my friend brought us to this resort. I love the place, so relaxing. The staff is very approachable and friendly. The food is tasty but quite expensive.

Just got curious about this resort as some of my friends in social media have been to this resort and posting some pictures. It is exclusive yes, so super safe.. I mean with all the atrocities happening around the province so to speak. So let me get down to business:
PROS:
1. Exclusive resort so super safe.
2. Relaxing atmosphere.
3. Great food and decent serving for family sharing.
CONS:
1. A bit of a long ride as it is outskirts from Davao and Tagum proper. Around 1 hour from Davao City and close to 20 minutes from Tagum City.
2. The beach resort is quite deceiving as their beach has dark water, dark sand, full wood rubbish getting ashore so basically don't expect to enjoy "the beach".
3. The pool is SO SO too. Really need a serious cleaning on their tiles and pathway, I don't think this resort is an old property but looks to me as already more than 5 years old.
4. The casitas/standard rooms are very cozy BUT with mosquito nets since mosquitos in the area are the size of bees..Seriously and not joking..
5. The pool toilet is filthy or maybe just lacking regular cleaning and maintenance.
6. If you are just visiting only on a day tour, you will be charged to use their pool towels (Php 100/towel) so better bring your own.
7. The room rates are on the high side but again I was curious so I booked 2 rooms anyway as I was with my mother and sister's family. A waste of money somehow.
8. Water heater not working properly, only in the evening.
9. Only one (1) TV channel working and we were too tired just navigating 2 remotes that both not working!
10. Breakfast is super limited so don't expect too much.
Overall, it is a bit disappointing and no value for money.
Please change your name to "BANANA Inland or Pool Resort".. Erase the word beach, it is deceiving as the resort obviously not making serious effort to clean the beach and the water.
PROS:

We visited Banana Beach for a day tour with my newly wed daughter with her husband.
We had our lunch in their restaurant, then we availed of their Forest tour after. We learned that the banana plantation is more than 700 hectares. We encountered the monkeys and wild boars along the road as we were toured around. These animals are residents of this place and the management are doing their best to protect and care for them.
In the forest, you need to cross the hanging bridges to be able to see the whole forest. How many hanging bridges? Not 1 not 2 not even 3 ! Because there are 9 ! But these bridges will bring you to the inner part of the forest where you can find century old trees and mangroves.
If you cannot cross the hanging bridges, you can stay in their shooting place where benches are also available. They also offer archery or you may opt for ax throwing for free!
Banana Beach also offers river cruising or you may just swim in the beach or enjoy the pool.
While we were there, there are also a group of call center agents who are having their team building activities in the area.
Tips:
1. Bring your car because the resort is still very far from their gate ( more than 1 km) .
2. Order their ice cream with syrup on top, it is superb ! 👍👍
3. Avail of their tours, you will have great adventures for sure.
I have a few suggestions:
1. I hope the management can provide a vehicle to transport their guests from the gate to the resort because it is really far. We were in our car when we visited the place but I worried about those who have no cars. The guard said it is 1 km from the gate to their office but I think it is more than that.
2. I have read several reviews about the pricey food. I believe so. Although the food taste good, but the servings are quite small for the price and the serving time is about 30min.So, I think, food prices must be reviewed as well as the serving size.

yes there is Karaoke there for rent, I saw a couple of large groups there for lunch but not sure about rooms as we did not spent the night.

Really I love to go to the beach, this resort is full marketing, black sand beach, water is dark, seems like was a former banana plantation, for the price i recommend the island of Samal Canibad
