This was an excellent museum, with sufficient information about the exhibits in English to really get a great look at the ethnographic and historical context for the island of Visby. Outstanding displayed rune stones and similar, great panoramic model of the growth. Interesting stories about medieval life here as well the era of the Hanseatic League’s impact.
The city of Visby is very quaint and contains a ton of historic buildings, old walls, and this museum ties a bow on the experience

Mycket att se, kan ägna många timmar här.
Dock väldigt lite information om Ringmuren, vilket kändes märkligt, eftersom det är Visbys ”stolthet”. Många stora rum med historiska föremål men Ringmuren fick bara en liten monter & några få rader. Bode kanske vara tvärtom…?

Il museo è molto antico, essendo stato fondato nel 1875, ma non ha un tema ben preciso. Si parte dalle steli funerarie (alcune pagane, altre cristiane, ma con scritte runiche), per poi passare alla geologia dell'isola (la Svezia è composta da rocce granitiche, l'isola invece da rocce calcaree, quindi ricche di fossili), ai reperti artistici che decoravano soprattutto le chiese, alla sezione archeologica con reperti che vanno dal neolitico al medioevo. Una sezione a parte è dedicata alla invasione danese di Gotland del 1361, con reperti della battaglia di Visby. Il museo contiene anche il Spillingsskatten, un favoloso tesoro vichingo di argento del IX secolo dal peso di 67 kg, parte del quale in monete di provenienti dal mondo islamico (attuali Iraq, Armenia...). Il museo è ospitato in un edificio storico del paese, che è stato rimaneggiato in più riprese prima di avere la forma attuale (è stato anche una caserma e una distilleria). L'esposizione è ben fatta, con cartellini in Svedese ed Inglese. Ingresso 150 sek.

Helt klart värt ett besök om man är intresserad av viking och medeltida historia. Dom har ett stort lekrummet för barnen att springa omkring och upptäcka på. Var en perfekt aktivitet en regnig dag.

El museo es muy interesante Tiene espacios interactivos y un ambiente dedicado a los niños con juegos especialmente diseñados para ellos. Se puede bajar una aplicación para ayudar y guiar el recorrido. Me encanto el salón ambientado como tienda de época. También tiene un espacio con cafeteria, y un jardin es muy agradable

Wonderful archaeology museum. Well laid out, and you can spend as much or little time as you would like. This was a cruise ship stop for us and it was "something" to do while in port. We probably spent 2-1/2 to 3 hours there, much to our surprise.

Sehr schön ausgestattet, Informationen sind in Schwedisch und Englisch verfügbar. Das einzige Manko - es war sehr laut und hektisch. Es gab kein Personal, dass die Besucher zur Ruhe ermahnt hätte.

Walking through the rune stones was very educational. Everything was in English as well as Swedish, so no language barriers.
It took about 2 hours to go through the whole museum.
I even bought a wool blanket from the Gotland Sheep!
