Nice walk with kids park and an area to exercise. Close to Tesco and walking distance into Banbridge. Benches around the park to have a rest.

Great for a walk round with the dog, or there is a play park close to Tesco which is very good to keep the little ones entertained for an hour or so.

Late afternoon on a bright spring day and I had the best part of an hour to kill in Banbridge so I went for a little stroll through Solitude Park and then sat and chilled for a while.
Solitude is a smallish park in the centre of Banbridge, straddling the River Bann and apart from the mature trees along the river, you could easily miss that it was there. It is a park of 2 distinct zones-though no barriers separate the 2. Near Tescos, you have the entrance into the large play park which caters for - and has distinct sections for - all ages from toddlers to teens. Hear the shouts of children mingle with the traffic noise of the traffic entering Tescos and there is an energetic buzz around the place.
Stroll downstream along the river - paths on either bank - and you find a more tranquil settings with the individuals walking their dog, their toddler or just walking through. Here it is quieter and calmer and gives you time to slow down and switch off.
For parents, the play area is well equipped but own personal gripe is that the play area is large and if you have children of different ages or abilities, they will no doubt scatter across the area to equipment that suits their ability leaving you trying to monitor where and what they are at.
Also, if walking through the park, most of the river has no barrier to stop wayward youngsters from falling in so you can feel on edge walking certain sections.
Another minor point is that there do not seem to any seating areas that catch the evening sun when it is low in the spring sky but this is the only annoyance I have with the park layout.

Lovely for a stroll round on a sunny day, plenty of seated areas to rest and watch the world go by. Good range of plants/shrubs positioned beside paths. If feeling fit there is an outdoor gym to exercise on with a range of different equipment. Picturesque with the River Bann flowing through the park, and for the kids there is a new skate park.

Solitude park has far developed from it's initial days. Built around the River Bann in the town made famous as the first town with a flyover bridge in Ireland known as 'the cut' and in the famous song 'The Star of the County Down' the park now accommodate a large open air concert area, beautiful walkways, bridges and an extensive children's play area complete with an array of various swings, slides and climbing areas which leads out to the large out of town Tesco store. Well worth a visit to chill out and relax.

This park has everything zip line. Slides. Baby area. Climbing area.swings ... best playpark we have ever had the pleasure of visiting ... give this place a try and its free too and right next to tesco so free parking close to town centre... spent over 2hrs here and the child didnt want to leave
