Beautiful countryside with breathtaking views...walking boots advised, but not essential. Very good guidence given and information. Usually great facilities and everyone is very helpful and friendly. If you're visiting the Giant's Causeway, go later in the day...evening preferably! We visited at 8.30 and it was so much quieter (although Visitors Centre was closed), but amazing photo opportunities and no crowds1

We walked from the centre of Coleraine, along the River Bann to the Premier Inn where we were staying. On a sunny afternoon this was a very pleasant stroll along a well surfaced path beside the river. Although the traffic noise was audible, the trees blocked the views of the busy roads nearby.
The following day as it was a very calm morning we walked back into town and got some great pictures of a placid River Bann reflecting the trees.

It is possible to walk from Coleraine Old Town Bridge, along the bank of the River Bann for a couple of miles on the West Bank. It is a very pleasant walk on wide stretches of the river, and with a mixture of cultivated grass land and flower beds near the bridge, and wilder areas around the area of the new bridge. Walking this way gives opportunity to see the bridge from almost water level, and to enjoy the excellent dragonfly metal work of art. on a pole well above head height. It is a good walk on level ground, and in natural splendour.

I had never heard of Mountsandel.
It's a beautiful woodland walk right on the banks of the Bann and tucked away within it is a Mesolithic fort - the earliest known site of human activity in Ireland.
Interpretive boards are dotted along the way to tell you what you're seeing.
Seems to be entirely dog-friendly.
Quite steep in a couple of places but not beyond anyone of average fitness.
Both beautiful and fascinating.

There are so many beautiful walks in and around Coleraine and surrounding district, whither it be a beach, forest, river walk, hill walk, you are sure to find one suitable for your individual abilities. Such awesome scenery to behold on your walks, so enjoy the walks at your leisure.

Coleraine walks and sightseeing is definitely worth a visit! With loads of different ones you'll find something different in each one of them. I did a couple of them around the area while away with work and it felt amazing from the Giants Causeway to the castles by the sea it was quite refreshing.
If you're into history and gorgeous landscape/sightseeing this is definitely worth going to.

When the weather is good Coleraine has so much to offer in the way of walks. There is Mountsandal Fort which is a lovely walk through a forested area. Not a long walk but can be hilly for people with disability. Along the riverside over at the Strand Road there is a lovely walk by the Bann which is flat and not a challenge for serious walkers. Slightly further afield Castlerock and the Bishop's Gate has the most amazing walks. Again not for the physically impaired although if taken gently is pleasant with the aid of a stick. The beaches at Castlerock, Portstewart and Portrush always good. There are also the nearby forests which offer short walks, especially out by Castlerow. Anderson Park in the town is a restful short walk with a plethora of flowers for any age to enjoy.
