Heading towards Norway and attacked by allied aircraft in 1945 , badly damaged and sinking,49 out of its 52 crew survived before the U Boat sunk,raised from the depths in 1993 ,U- 534 is now a permanent exhibition in the U Boat Story Museum in Woodside Ferry Terminal, the U Boat has been cut into sections and you can see and feel how the crew lived ,its such a cool exhibition, in my opinion one of the best of its kind ,we viewed the U Boat from a bar atop the ferry terminal ,if your over this side of the River Mersey its most definitely well worth checking out.

Thank you for your lovely review from 2019/20. The U-Boat Story is currently closed to the public but Woodside Ferry Village is a great place for food and drink.

Excellent museum, gives you a insight to what it was like to be a submariner, the U-Boat is cut into sections so you can see inside and parts have been reconstructed , you can see the damage from the depth charges that sunk her, good little museum worth a visit

The U Boat Story is a fabulous attraction in Woodside Ferry Terminal.
I never had time to visit the U Boat but I did view the German U Boat and it looks amazing ,we were sat in a bar in Woodside Village in the ferry terminal and you have great views of the U Boat, it looks amazing and much bigger than I thought, I took a few photos and am eagerly looking forward to doing a tour of the U Boat Story.
Well worth checking out if your in the area.

A group of us were in Liverpool for a Navy reunion and visited the Western approaches museum and then caught the ferry over the Mersey to the U boat Story. Both attractions compliment each other well. Cutting up U534 into sections allowing visitors to see inside is a great idea and gives a real insight into the cramped conditions in which the submariners lived and worked. While her crew might have been on the wrong side, they have my utmost respect.

Nicely laid out museum, full of information and a fascinating history of the 1940s war. The outside is particularly interesting when you can look right inside the insides of a German U-Boat, while below see some of the items retrieved.

Enjoyed a ferry trip over the Mersey and loved our time at the U-boat, just enough to see until the next ferry arrives. Great information given by the on site guide, Chris 👍🏻.

Visited with my friends as part of a WW2 double-bill with the Western Approaches Museum. Both complimented each other well - a combined ticket would work really well. It took a while to find the entrance as it wasn't entirely clear from outside the ferry terminal, but once we were inside, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much was on display even before reaching the U-boat itself. I was blown away by how small the U-boat was - I can't imagine how so many people could fit inside!

We were unsure wether to get off the Mersey Ferry at this stop as it was cold and we had seen a few reviews say it does not take the full hour to complete so be prepared to wait around.. we actually had to leave without being finished. The exhibit is small but so interesting, light for those who do not enjoy the museum side of things but still packed with information for those who do. Included in your ferry ticket so an absolute must do if doing the Mersey Ferry!!

While on the Mersey Ferry, we took up the included offer of a visit to this exhibition of a "resurrected" U-boat.
The indoor part showed photos and general memorabilia from the vessel which had been active in WW2 before being sunk as the war ended in 1945.
The tragedy is the loss of life on both sides incurred during its tenure, but as history, it's wonderful that we have this museum today as a reminder.
Outside is the vessel itself, cut into segments with descriptive plaques beside each part to give us an indication of what life on board must have been like, full of wonder and terror alike.
Fascinating, no doubt. Glad it wasn't me in there though.

We visited the U boat story included as part of our Mersey ferry ticket, I have to say I am amazed this exhibition does not get more publicity, I hadn't even heard of it until we bought our ferry ticket and really wasn't expecting much because of that but I would put it right up there with all of the more well known attractions in Liverpool.
The actual sub is cut into sections and viewed through perspex windows as for obvious reasons you cannot step inside but that was enough to convey to me the conditions that these brave submariners endured, there is also a small museum type exhibition of artefacts from the sub and a looping video giving a history of the sub.
All in all very thought provoking if you allow yourself to be immersed in what actually went on in and around the Sub when it was operating.
A must do if you have the slightest interest in Naval history, it really needs to be advertised more

Is there a place where we can park our bicycles (with cycling holiday / camping gear) securely while visiting the U-boat story? We have some time left between arriving in Liverpool till the night ferry to Belfast leaves and would like to visit the U-boat story.

As the car park is manned, I suppose the bikes could be chained to fence in view of the attendant.

IF you take the Ferry Tour at £7.50 per person, this includes the U Boat Story. But the tour is a bit of a con, it does not travel the same tour as a few years ago.

I agree with everyone who has answered. We made our own way round so didn.t have to wait for a guided tour. There is a small museum inside with a film about the activities of the submarine and also a few interactive items.We drove there and it was easy to find and to park. We also had a drink in the cafe which had lovely views across the river. We also had a walk along the side of the river which was nice. We were there about 2 and a half hours but you need longer if you want the ferry trip. hope this helps
