Excellent... great views... a lovely trail.
We hired bikes and cycled the route from one end to the other, stopping off at a few stops along the way.

Lovely place to visit, next time we will start at Bakewell and not half way through at the Viaduct. Ideal for a walk, ride bike/horse or go for a run, as it is flat. Safe for families, no roads, with cafes along the way. Bike hire is also available or bring your own. If you are lucky, you will see wildlife and insects along the way. A great day out for the whole family, young or mature. Will definitely return.

Easy gradients so good to cover distance without too much trouble. Did the Monsal Trail in the morning, lovely breakfast at Hassop Station, then walked North beyond the viaduct. We aware that to see the viaduct in all its glory you have to walk off the trail and into the valley - maybe next time!

Beautiful views from Monsal Head. Lovely, picturesque walks. Must see if you are visiting Bakewell or surrounding area.

What a wonderful few hours. Took my sons (aged 10 and 8) and our bikes with the intention of cycling from the Hassop Station Cafe up the trail for about 5 miles before turning around, but was having such a good time we ended up doing the full trail.
Would highly recommend!

A beautiful easy walk in the Peak District national park with loads of paths of to the side
The tunnel was great to walk though and you could see what it used to be when stream train was going though

This is an excellent place to visit in the Peak District for outdoor pursuits.
Whilst not entirely flat, the gradient is gentle so it is great for walking, running or biking.
There are refreshment stops along the way, including Hassop Station cafe and Miller’s Dale, both of which also offer toilets.
The views are spectacular and the old railway tunnels very interesting and offering shade from rain or sunshine, depending on the weather.

The view from Monsal Head is one of very traditional English countryside with hills and dales - perfect walking territory even in the gale we experienced.

We had a fantastic time cycling along the trail with bike hire from Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire. Cheryl and Simon were super friendly and helpful - not to mention very accommodating of our group of 25. The stroll next to the river from Wye Dale Car Park to the hire hut was an added bonus - beautiful and serene - we all enjoyed watching a heron fishing.
The trail was fantastic with a number of opportunities to stop for drinks/food/toilets - all well-signposted. Everyone we met/passed were friendly and considerate of others on the trail. A lovely way to spend the day.

Can you access monsal trail near cressbrook? And is it easy access no steep inclines?

Yes you can, by the farm below Monsal Head off bottomhill road. Go over the bridge up a reasonably steep incline. Everything is accessible from Cresbrook, within walking distance. Beautiful walk along the river access through the Mill. Hope that helps.

We are staying in Tideswell and want to cycle to get onto Monsal Trail. Is there a safer route than using the main road?

Hi LoffO,
I believe, after extensive research, that the best and safest route for you would be to wait for low tide (check the up-to-date local timetable in the Titeswell library) and then you should be able to carry your bicyclets above your heads. The water will not be above calf height during low tide (check with local farmers regarding the height of the local calves though). Hope this helps.

There is the TP3 bus which is a short walk from each end so you can park one end, walk and get the bus back. Bus also connects with Matlock railway station so you can do it all by public transport

Hi - the online map is OK I think. There are toilets at Hassop Station (bike hire here) and at Millers Dale station a bit over half way along. There are some too at Monsal Head but you have to leave the trail and go up a fairly steep path. Toilets in Bakewell too.
You'll find the map and info on the Peak District (.gov.uk) web site
