Family day and puckless

Enjoyable family day here at our first Puck fair and first visit to Killorglin. Lots of hurdy gurdies charging €3 per child/person. Kids loved them but you couldn't stay too long without deep pockets. Price of an ice cream Sundae varied dramatically from €5 (near the hurdy gurdies) to €2.50 (further away from the hurdy gurdies) so shop around. Visible garda presence during the day which was reassuring. Lots of tat for sale but some good stalls. Hit on a jugglers live performance which was enjoyable. Informed by locals that the town can get rough at night in particular. My husband enjoyed the Cattle fair on the road but said he wouldn't buy any 2nd hand tools at it. We left after about 2 hours as the heavens opened. No sign of Puck. Appearance expected later in the day. Live music when we were leaving.

The puck fair goat should be a statue not a living animal. Its cruel.

Kerry is a great county with so much to recommend it. However I urge everyone to protest and not to support a Puck Fair Festival that catches a wild goat, hoists the terrified animal up on scaffolding to stand in a small cage above the town for three days! Sure its given food and water and checked by a vet but no enlightened person should accept that this is in anyway acceptable. Why can't they use a statue for goodness sake! I don't understand why this is allowed by animal welfare legislation.

Ярмарка шайб - одна из старейших ярмарок в Ирландии, которая проходит ежегодно в течение трех дней 10-12 августа в Киллорглине. Есть традиция - каждый год в горах ловят дикого козла, и школьница из одной из местных начальных школ коронует козла «Королем шайб». Затем козу сажают в клетку на три дня, а на третий день ярмарки его отвезет обратно в горы.

Very underwhelming

I was expecting a festive local fair highlighting traditional Irish products but what I experienced was more like a flea market.

As for the goat, he is held in a small cage elevated above the sound stage with no room to move and being blasted with music. I personally would never go to this again and I am shocked they treat this goat this inhumanly. If I was a goat, I would want to loose.

Fête votive

Cest une belle fête votive de province.
On y trouve de tout du quincaillier à la diseuse bonne aventure en passant par le marchand de saucisse frites et les stands forains.
La bière coule à flot et on revient en sentant la graille. Cest sympa.

One of the best festival's in Ireland. All free entertainment and music events. Held on the 10,11 and 12 of August each year.

We had a great time. 6 adults, 5 children.

The first day when they raise King Puck onto the stand was a great ceremony. They raised him to the 1st floor of 3, and had to bring him back down because they forgot to crown him!

Yes the stalls are filled with over priced junk from China, there is little in the way of local products for sale around the King Puck stand, but if you go nearer to the leisure centre, there are lots of local stools selling local products. There are stands which sell "2nd hand" power tools, but these were quite clearly stolen, no packaging, no power leads, no paperwork, just crates of power tools. The food stalls are pretty decent.

The funfair was great fun which kept the children very busy and enthusiastic. Our kids loved it and looked forward to it everyday. Take cash.

During the day there are lots of different things going on, all are advertised on the Puck fair website. Bands playing, cartoon characters walking through crowds, hair braiding.

The pubs are open pretty much all the time, and serve alcohol in glasses for inside and plastic for outside. Staff on the door stop anyone from going outside with glasses. This is good because there are children everywhere and limits accidents. Pubs will have differing brands on the plastic cups to make sure you don't travel between pubs. Falveys was particularly good.

There are Gardai patrolling throughout the day, and more in the evening and night to make sure people behave themselves.

All in all a good experience, which we all enjoyed.

Will be back next year.

We planned part of our trip around Puck Fair in Killorglin. l --- sort of like a street flea market. I wouldn't go again but I'm glad I saw it. However I do want to say they treat the goat really well and its harmless so people should get off their backs about animal rights.
The Churros near the children's ride area were delicious and they tasted just as good as the ones I had in Mexico....thats how good they are. So the Food at the fair is fine ...

I have been to this for the past 3 years and i LOVE it. Such a great atmosphere around. All the entertainment is free and goes on for hours. It's suitable for all the family. Loads of stalls too selling toys,makeup, books etc etc. Definitely worth a visit.

we were passing through and saw the signs for Puck Fair ,so we stopped and walked the town. The puck fair is an old tradition where a goat is crowned the Puck King and is put up on a pedestal for three days , he is treated royaly{REALLY}, and then is released back to the mountain. There is a street fair with booths, dancers ,song, and it is a lot of fun.
